Tips to Lose Weight Without Trying

Losing weight usually requires a lot of hard work. It’s no wonder many people give up before they’ve reached their full weight loss goal. It’s a difficult road to travel when you’re on a mission to shed some pounds. I completely understand the frustration and tedious efforts that come about when you’re trying to lose weight. Today I wanted to share a few tips to lose weight without trying for those days you’re simply too frustrated to stick with a rigid weight loss goal routine.

Learn Portion Control

This is probably the best tip I can share with you today for losing weight without trying. Master the skill of knowing appropriate portion sizes for any and all food. We tend to overeat naturally due to the size of our plates, meals served at restaurants being over portioned and the simple fact that we all tend to overeat naturally. When you learn portion control and purchase a portion control plate, you’re more apt to lose weight without trying.

Be Mindful of Thoughts & Environment

Try to avoid talking to yourself in a negative tone and feeling guilty for eating something that you shouldn’t. If you spend too much time making yourself feel guilty or repeating things that you can’t eat during your weight loss process, you’ll only feed the inner craving demon. Try to be mindful of your environment by not putting yourself into a situation where you will have to continuously talk to yourself about fighting the urge to overeat.

Stop Calorie Counting

Learn to pick healthier as natural as you can get options for food in your home. Think about setting yourself up for health snacking rather than trying to count calories or remove foods completely from your diet. For example, you can switch out apple juice for an apple which is closer to the natural state of this food source. Instead of using calorie counters, just eat by the basic rule of thumb that you eat food that’s as close to nature as possible.

Drink More Water

Lastly, when you increase your water consumption you will notice that you start to lose weight without trying. There are many ways you can enjoy drinking more water. You can purchase your own water bottle to refill throughout the day. This is a great way to keep track of how much water you intake each day. You may also buy fruit infuser water bottles so that you add a natural flavor to water for those who don’t care for the taste.

There you have it a few tips to lose weight without trying. There are many tips available for you and I am sure your family and friends have lent their advice as well. Each of these tips I shared today are meant to be easy to incorporate into your daily life because you can lose weight without trying.

Depressed? Here are 5 Natural Remedies to Consider

There are disorders that affect the physical body- heart disease, diabetes and more. And then there are disorders that affect your mental health- depression, anxiety and mood disorders. Being affected by these, particularly depression, can make you feel helpless and crippled in many ways.

People who are depressed tend to become antisocial, and slowly, it starts affecting every aspect of their life, eventually having a negative impact on their body as well as their social standing. While it takes a lot to deal with depression, there are some natural remedies that can make it easier for you. Here we’ve listed down 5 of the best! Read on…

Eat More Happy Foods

A healthy and a well-balanced diet can do a lot for your body, particularly your digestive system, and yes, it in turn, also does a lot for your mental health. Choosing the right foods and including them in your everyday meals can make you feel much better, and less depressed in general.

Studies have found that individuals who consumed a diet rich in fish, fruits and whole foods had lower odds of being affected by depression. In particular, consuming foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids was found to be highly beneficial.

Probiotic foods and supplements helped too, since they are found to improve cognitive function and reduce depressive symptoms.

Get More Vitamin D

The deficiency of vitamins and minerals tends to have a slow, yet profound effect on the body. The deficiency of vitamin D in particular, has been very strongly found to be associated with depression- so much so that individuals who are depressed are also often asked to take vitamin D supplements to reverse the symptoms. This vitamin tends to work by altering the brain function in such a way that it makes it less susceptible to being affected by mood disorders.

You can either have your general physician prescribe you these supplements or get more of it through food sources such as tuna, cheese, egg yolks, salmon, mackerel etc.

Unleash the Herb Power

Herbs and herbal extracts also do a lot when it comes to helping you tackle depression. Adaptogen herbs like Rhodiola and Ashwagandha have been found to reduce the production of stress hormones and relax the nervous system of the body. They also help increase the production of neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine which help improve focus and concentration and reduce anxiety and stress.

Another herb which has been found effective against varying degrees of depression is St John’s Wort. Several studies have backed up its effectiveness, and it has been found to work so wonderfully that its effects could be compared to the effects of SSRIs- a common antidepressant.

Set Some Goals (And Smash Them)

One of the simplest and easiest ways to tackle depression on a personal level, and feel loads better is to set down some goals for yourself. Being depression can literally sap you of all the will and energy you had to live life- you won’t feel like doing anything or accomplishing anything, but that’s exactly what you have to do.

Take the first step and list down small goals that you would wish to hit in the next couple of weeks to a month. Chalk out a plan about how you can do it- it can be anything- your work goals, your career goals, your relationship goals or whatever area of life you want to improve- whatever makes you feel strong. Every single day, wake up with the determination to take small steps towards hitting your goals. Every time you do hit a goal, reward yourself for it. This will help you break out of the negative circle of nothingness and pretty soon, you’ll have a smile when you hit the bed at night, and when you get up in the morning.

Get in Touch with Nature

The benefits of being more in touch with nature and spending some quality time outdoors is highly underrated. Several studies have found that depressed individuals who got enough sun exposure and spent some time outdoors on a regular basis had a much reduced risk of being affected by vitamin D deficiency, and they also felt happier and better and had a significant reduction in the intensity of depressive symptoms.

Must Have Summer Fitness Essentials

Hit the pavement this summer and keep your fitness goals on track with  some of my favorite must have summer fitness essentials.
Keeping hydrated during the hot summer days is super important – especially if you are working out. I love the Contigo water bottle to take with me when I work  out, or travel. It’s 100% BPA free, and made out of tritan which provides high  impact resistance and won’t stain or retain odors – plus it’s dishwasher safe. It fits great in your cars cup holder, and it’s spout shield covers silicone drink spout, keeping it clean and protected when not in use.

Another must have is the Mission Enduracool instant cooling towel.  When dry the soft microfiber absorbs sweat and wicks moisture away from the skin – to activate the cooling technology, wet the towel and wring out excess and snap three times. A typical towel cools for up to 2 hours when wet. To reactivate simply re-wet and re-snap the towel. When wet, it usually cools 30° below average body temperature instantly!

Panasonic’s Open Ear Bone Conduction Headphones or the Sport Clip Headphones are perfect for your summer getaway, staycation, or your daily run. Both headphones are water resistant against rain and sweat, and are ideal for running, hiking, mowing the lawn, exercising, and more.

Oh, and the Open Ear Bone Conduction headphones allows you to hear your surroundings while listening to music – perfect for daily runs, for  your safety. They include reflectors which are great for when running at night. ..oh, and they are water and sweat resistant too!

What are some of your must have summer fitness essentials??

Running on Fumes: Why You Shouldn’t Let Your Gas Tank Run Low

Most of us fall in the two categories above – we either play it on the safe side and fill up as soon as we start seeing a half a tank or we see how far we can get when that empty light comes on.  Bust most of us were taught that letting that light come on can cause trouble in the long run – and they are right.

Some say never let the fuel level drop below 1/4 a tank because of the sediment forming in the bottom of gas tanks- the gasoline helps keep the fuel pump in the modern gas tanks cool which doesn’t cause the issues it used to when you get to less than a 1/4 of a tank. BUT the fuel pump is a vital part of your vehicles fuel system and it makes sure the engine gets the fuel it needs to keep running, so here is why you should avoid letting the fuel level get too low:

This post is sponsored by service check

If you do drive often with a low fuel tank, you could encounter part failure, including problems with the fuel pump and fuel filter. Here are a few symptoms to look out for that indicate potential problems with your fuel system.

Bad Fuel Pump. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank on most modern cars, and problems can occur when the fuel pump either becomes clogged from sediment in the fuel tank or stops working due to wear, usually from working too hard or after long intervals of time. If you are lucky, you should never have to replace it , but sometimes it can wear out. Some signs that show your fuel pump needs replaced are: a vehicle that is hard to start, hesitation while driving on the road, decreased fuel mileage, and overheating, If your car has any of these issues be sure to schedule it for a service check at your local dealership.

Fuel Filter. While a fuel pump has its own filter, sometimes it does not catch all of the particles. The fuel filter, located between the engine and the fuel pump, is another stopgap measure to help catch any of these remaining particles that make it through. Sometimes, though, the fuel filter becomes clogged and needs replacing, Signs of a bad fuel filter are the engine shakes when you are sitting idle, it has a hard time starting, the vehicle seems to have a hard time while you are driving down the road, or the vehicle stalls while driving.

In addition to potentially costly repairs to your car, driving on a low tank can be dangerous. If the car suddenly stops running, you could be stranded in a deserted area, or in the middle of a busy highway. And with many cars, the airbags don’t deploy if the car is turned off, putting you and any passengers in an even more dangerous situation.

The Girls Guide to the Glove Box

I hate the stereotype that girls don’t know anything about cars – I’ve loved cars since I was a kid. I could identify a make and model faster than most of my guy friends; (I guess maybe I wasn’t your typical girl either!) So the idea that women don’t know anything about a car when it comes to purchasing – or maintaining vehicles- doesn’t sit well with me. I think we can be a perfect balance of the girly girl, and the one who knows about ‘car stuff’.

My list of must-have’s for the glove box is more of an essentials for the car – from extra shoes, to jumper cables.

This post is sponsored by Len Stoler Chevrolet.

Emergency Kit. Like every other list of essentials for the car, an emergency kit is a necessity. I recommend updating it with the seasons – so 4 times a year – you will go in and update the bottles of water, the non-perishable snacks (that eventually do expire, so you don’t want nasty snacks and water because you didn’t update your kit), band-aids, neosporin, switch out the parka and blanket from the winter for a raincoat and flip flops for the summer, etc. Make sure your flash light has fresh batteries, duct tape (remember, you can fix about anything with duct tape) and I always like to throw in an entire extra outfit in there too – you’d be surprised how often that comes in handy! (and yes, extra undies and t-shirts for the kiddos too!)

Mace or a Taser – Your Choice. It’s always good to have protection just in case; especially if you are a woman that travels alone often. Always of course, be aware of your surroundings, but having something to help protect yourself so you can get away in a hurry if you need to gives you peace of mind. I keep mine in the glove box for easy access!

Misc Personal Items. More items I keep in my glove box (and not in an emergency kit) are extra feminine hygiene products, Benadryl (for any type of allergic reaction) pain relievers, tweezers, fingernail clippers, an extra key (has came in handy quite often) wet wipes, napkins (just collect them from your visits to fast food restaurants) a notebook and a few pens, an extra phone charger and portable battery pack.

Important Papers. Make sure you have your registration, insurance cards (Make sure you update them when they come in the mail, so you aren’t driving around with expired ones -even though some states accept electronic ID cards on your smartphone, not all do – and from what I have experienced a lot of the police officers just don’t like them!). Also keep a list of important phone numbers, some emergency cash and quarters, and your vehicles manual in case you need to do some hands on work yourself.

Spare Tire – Lug Wrench – Tire Pressure Gauge. As much as I love to call AAA like the next girl, but sometimes you gotta’ do it yourself. However, you need to have the tools to be able to do it yourself. Make sure your spare tire has air, and that you have a car jack and lug wrench and a tire pressure gauge is always a good idea as well.

Jumper Cables. Jumper cables or one of those battery-operated ones so you can jump your own car (even better) is definitely an essential.
