Gold Star Goes Veggie: Try The New Vegetarian Chili

Just in time for lent, Gold Star has again become the star with their new vegetarian chili. With a vegetarian in the household sometimes eating out or on the go can get to be little difficult since she doesn’t want to eat a salad for every meal. She was shocked at how much the new veggie chili taste just like meat – in fact, she made me double check with the waitress – she was sure they accidentally gave us the meat one!

The veggie chili I’ve tried to make at home for her is always noticeably vegetarian. Big beans and no ground meat – definitely not something that would ever be mistaken for ‘meat chili.’ I was pleasantly surprised myself on how much this taste like the real deal. If you are going meatless for lent, you have more options than just fish!

We had a good time visiting the Norwood location near Xavier – did you know Gold Star started with burgers? And their Norwood location serves them, so we had to give them a try. My son was impressed with a cheeseburger and chips!
I was pretty impressed with the chili burger – a delicious burger with Gold Star Chili, cheese and Fritos on top!

Don’t just take my word for it – enter to win a $25 Gold Star Chili gift card and try it for yourself! Enter in the rafflecopter below – ends 3/17.

Decorating Your Child’s Bedroom

When a child comes home after school, one of the first places in the house they go to is their bedroom. Now that you have a family of your own, the next step is to create a happy home in which your child will grow.

Decorating a bedroom according to your children’s wishes will be a fun experience. It is the perfect opportunity to encourage creativity and get them to use their young imaginations. Ask them about their favorite cartoon characters and use paint colors that they prefer. If he or she owns a pet, such as a hamster or fish in an aquarium, a suitable area where they will live will have to be determined before you begin.

While there is a good chance you will be successful the first time that you decorate the room, updates will no doubt need to happen as your child gets older. Here are a few ideas that you can use to enhance the look of your child’s room to suit their personality and age.

Make sure you have the appropriate furniture

Older children need to do their homework. A desk in the corner of the room will provide an area free of distractions. Make sure that the desk has sufficient lighting and decorate the room in monochrome, with a few colorful accessories and unique patterns. One way to increase space for dressers is to purchase a bed with divan storage. In addition, you can install a slide-out truckle bed for when your child wants to invite a friend for a sleepover.

Consider illustrated blinds

One way to be creative is to use graphic patterns to enhance the look of the bedroom. Illustrated blinds are chic and sophisticated. Ask your child to participate by adding a few pictures on the wall in the room.

Now is the chance to let the room stand out, with the help of printed and bold, patterned blinds. Ensure that the walls are durable and keep in mind that wall paneling will need to stand a lot of boisterous behavior from toddlers to teens.

Decorate the room with waterproof shutters

The installation of waterproof window shutters will add significant value to your home. You can rest assured that if your child has a vivid imagination and a taste for experimentation, the shutters will be durable and able to withstand water or humidity. A further benefit of this kind of shutter is that the finish looks similar to wood. Also, they enrich the entire décor of a child’s bedroom. Not only do they make the room look modern, but they also block sunlight and external sounds, allowing your child to sleep better. There is a variety of window shutters available that are decorative and easy to install, such as café-style shutters, and shutters in special shapes to perfectly suit those odd-shaped windows.

Be creative with the lighting

Lighting is an important aspect that will set the tone of a bedroom. There are alternatives to bed lamps or night-lights, which include a trail of fairy lights that can be installed on the wall to create a warm glow. This can look stylish and chic for an older child.

For the most pleasing effect, choose LED lights. A dedicated light source, focused on the artwork on the walls can be a creative way to decorate the room. A calming mural that your child will appreciate, with colors such as green and blue, will provide a soothing effect to the entire space.

Decide which colors your child will enjoy when painting the walls. You have many choices when it comes to the color of the room, and you have the freedom to pick a sophisticated shade instead of a typical Barbie pink, for example, if you have a daughter.

Use your child’s favorite artwork

A mural will not only look creative but will help a child’s imagination to soar. You can use accessories to make the room age-appropriate, and you really don’t need to worry about making everything match. Try to mix fabrics and shades to create an eclectic look. Add florals, with extra spots, stripes and shades to create a sophisticated look.

Remember that your child’s input on decorating is essential. It will give them a sense of responsibility and enhance their self-esteem. Whether you have a son or a daughter, they will come to love their childhood room for the rest of their lives.

Today, a wide range of online courses exist that will entitle you to apply for higher paying, better quality jobs. Initially, you may have to invest some money in your online education, but the rewards can be huge.

Start an Online Store

Selling online is a much easier and more affordable proposition than setting up a brick and mortar business. It’s possible to set up an online store in a matter of days and you could be selling your products or services very quickly.

Once again, you must be willing to spend some money setting up your e-commerce store, as well as spend money on other components that are required to sell online. Online training, teaching and consultancy are multi-billion dollar industries and each of these areas continues to grow and become more popular with people who want to improve certain skills and learn new things. In many instances, teachers, trainers and consultants are making substantial incomes by helping people.

If you have a unique skill or talent that’s in high demand, you could offer your services through the latest video conferencing technologies, or even create your own online courses that your clients can access on the internet.

Unfortunately, many people don’t use the internet to its full potential. However, if you are willing to make the effort, it has the potential to become your own little goldmine and dramatically increase your family income.

Mr. Tax Man: 5 Questions to Ask About Getting a Business Tax Break

Everyone’s favorite time of year is finally here—tax season!

Having started a new business, you might be worried that you’re going to owe a lot on your taxes. As the business hasn’t taken off just yet, you have a real fear that the tax cost of running it is going to bankrupt you. Simply reading the word ‘tax’ sends you spinning into high anxiety mode. Shh, chill. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Do this a couple of times, at least until your stomach begins to unknot itself. Okay. Things are going to be okay. Your taxes aren’t going to end you and your business, how do I know this? Because by asking the right questions, you can get a tax break.

Here are five questions to ask to catch a break on your taxes and get yourself some money back from the government.

  1. Should I do my own taxes to save money?

A: In an interview with Business News Daily, marketing consultant and small business owner Kristel Yoneda tells business owners that they should hire a professional to help them do their taxes. “My tax expert helps me maximize my deductions, fills out all the necessary paperwork and even reminds me to pay my estimated taxes on time. This kind of help is invaluable. It allows me to focus my energy on producing quality work for my clients than stressing out about my taxes.”

Your staff and customers rely on you to do your job. Help yourself by hiring a tax expert to take the stress out of tax season and find you monies and tax breaks.

  1. What institutions do I need to file my taxes with?

A: Every American is required to file taxes with their state government and the federal government. The Huffington Post points out that what many new small business owners forget (or are unaware of) is that they will also need to file taxes with other jurisdictions, including their county and district. Another reason to hire a tax expert: they won’t overlook these areas!

  1. Does having insurance get me a tax break?

A: Health insurance will likely get you a tax break, especially if you run your company independently and pay for the healthcare of your staff. To help you and your business year-round, make sure to get a healthcare and general liability insurance plan. Though liability insurance won’t get you a tax cut, it will protect your business’ financial interests if a customer or employee tries to take you to court for some superfluous reason during the rest of the year. In essence, a general liability insurance plan makes sure that you’re able to pay your taxes should something unpredictable happen.

  1. What are your deductible expenses?

A: Ah, now we’ve come to the important stuff! Business-related expenses are usually tax-exempt. Deductible expenses include: office supplies, office equipment, cost of travel, employee training costs, office equipment repairs, health insurance, utilities and a host of extras. To take advantage of deductible expenses, keep a detailed ledger (and all of your receipts) noting the costs of each service.

  1. If I get a refund, how should I use it?

A: Put the refund right back into your business or in your business’ savings account. Money by your business is money for your business, spend responsibly.

With a little more understanding of how to look at and talk about taxes, you’re ready to get them filed!
