Our Mother’s Day Tradition

For many years we did the traditional Mother’s Day festivities – we went out to eat with my Mom and Grandma (and the rest of the family) then back to my parent’s house for dessert and to give gifts and cards. Though I love the time together as a family, it was as stressful sometimes as the holidays – dealing with all the kids, trying to find a restaurant that didn’t have a gazillion other Mom’s and their families there as well. That was up until a few years ago we decided to have a Mom’s Day Out.

Mom’s Day out consist of – myself, my sister, my Mom, my Grandma, and up until a few years ago, my Great-Grandma (otherwise known as “Nana pronounced Nanny). Sometimes my girls would tag along for the fun, but this is a once a year occurrence – no other time in the year are we able to escape from the chores and busy-ness of life to just enjoy each others company and get pampered!

Our Mom’s Day Out consistent of pedicures (just in time for Spring!) , shopping, and lunch. We probably look like quite a crew coming into the spa – all wanting to sit by each other and have our toes done at the same time.

The girls absolutely LOVED getting pampered – and my daughter enjoyed being able to get flowers painted on her toes (because Mom is so not creative like that). The great thing is that most locations that we have went to have given me a break on the price of the pedicures for the girl’s since there is a boat load of us coming in to get our toes done.

Nothing feels better then a nice fresh pedi. After a long winter of being rough on our feet, it’s great to be able to relax and enjoy some pampering, and of course some shopping and lunch with the most important ladies in my life!

This has become an annual tradition – and I can’t wait until Saturday for this years Mom’s Day Out!

Dove sees Beauty as More then Skin Deep

This post has been compensated by Global Influence, though this is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.

My Mom always told me that all the beauty on the outside, can’t hide the ugly on the inside.. and the older I get, the more I realize how true that is! I’ve noticed that those with a pretty inside – great personality, giving, honest, funny – that the beauty really does reflect on their appearance as well. I want to teach my daughters’ (and my son for that matter) that beauty really is more then skin deep. That’s why I love that Dove and Walgreens are committed to building positive self-esteem and inspiring women to reach their full potential, acknowledging that beauty is defined in different ways.

Cheap Plans with Unlimited Text & Data: Walmart Family Mobile

I am a member of the #CollectiveBias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias®  and Walmart Family Mobile.  #FamilyMobileSaves

All opinions,as usual, are my own.

I am a bit of a talker – between my job, my blog, my kids and my friends (both offline and on!) I go through a lot of minutes on my cell phone. Though we have a house phone through our cable provider, it’s really just there for emergencies, or for those rare occasions that I get to go out on a date night with my husband and we have a sitter. I honestly don’t even know that number off the top of my head, I have to look it up! Either way I easily hit 1,200 minutes a month and over 3,000 text a month (I told you, I’m a busy lady!)  My husband hits even more then that since he is over-the-road, and neither of us can just stop our jobs because we are getting too close to comfort on our limits with a phone plan. We really need the lowest priced unlimited plan!

walmart

Which is why we made the switch to the Walmart Family Mobile Plan.

I’ve mentioned  before about how much my family loves Walmart Family Mobile. We’ve saved TONS of money by switching the entire family to the WFM plan, with unlimited talk, text and data, not to mention upgraded the kids to hip touch screen phones (God forbid that a 12 year old have a basic phone!) Our love of WFM does not stop there – we’ve converted my Mom as well.

One of the worst things I hated to hear from my Mom was “Well I gotta’ go, I’m really close to running out of minutes”, or “well I can’t text anymore I’m not sure how many text I have left for the month.”

Boo.

With cell phones being a lot of peoples only means of communication, having to worry about how many texts or minutes you have left until the next month really just stinks. That is why I think that a Walmart Family Mobile phone is a perfect gift for Mother’s Day!

My Mom, much like my children, were stuck with basic phones that pretty much didn’t do anything more then let you talk, or text. You could take pictures, but it was like taking them with a camera in a toy, and you sure can’t do much of anything else like check the weather, get directions, or just scroll through Facebook while you were waiting in the Doctor’s office.

Being able to have a smartphone with great features for a low price just makes sense – It’s less then $40 a month for unlimited talk, text and data on the first line. You can add additional lines on your family plan for only $35 each. (That right there is a $$ saver, since it was an additional $100 to add my second line with my previous carrier) and..wait for it..
No contracts.

mom on phone

(Mom enjoying her new phone! We even got her on Instagram!!)

You pay for your service on a per month basis, and you can cancel your service at any time without fees or penalties. This was definitely something that my Mom found to be quite impressive, since she was scared of making the jump with her prior carrier and being stuck  in a contract for years with a phone, or service, that she didn’t like.

I am excited to gift her the phone, and see how she likes it – watch for my follow-up post in the next couple of weeks as she shares her experience switching to Walmart #FamilyMobile!

5 Top Reasons to Visit Puerto Rico

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puerto Rico, The All-Star Island for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

The beautiful island of Puerto Rico is known as the gateway to the Caribbean. Just 110 miles long and 35 miles wide, the capital city of San Juan is the center of it all combing new and old facilitated by its colorful building facades, vintage watchtowers, and cobblestone streets.

Venture off the beaten path a bit and you’ll find not only lush rainforests full of adventure, but also spirited locals eating, drinking, and dancing. More than anything, you’ll be surrounded by an aura of living in the moment, with residents and visitors alike enjoying the simple pleasures in life.

Live your own 5-star vacation story in Puerto Rico.

1.No Passport Required. Puerto Rico is still technically the U.S. (a commonwealth of the U.S. since 1952; residents have been U.S. citizens since 1917 under the Jones Act), but it doesn’t feel like the U.S. No forms of identification are needed to enter beyond your driver’s license or ID card. The island culture is pronounced and vibrant with a heavy Spanish influence that transports you to a place where the warm waters and tranquil beaches make you feel like you are in another country.

2.The Bio Bays. There are only eight known places on the entire planet where the bays become “bioluminescent” at night, andthree of them are in Puerto Rico. Because of a high concentration of microscopic single-celled creatures called dinoflagellates, the luminescence occurs whenever the water is disturbed by motion such as splashing or paddling. While you were once able to swim and “glow” in the water like a superhero, conservation efforts have ended that practice. Now, you can just run your hands and arms through the water to experience what looks like sparkly lights or diamonds twinkling over your skin like a reflection of the night sky in motion (and on high speed).

3.The Beaches. Puerto Rico has 270 miles of coastline and has been featured in the Top 10 Beaches from Travel Channel, including Flamenco Beach in Culebra, often cited as one of the best beaches in the world. Beaches as far as the eye can see – do you really need any more convincing?

4.Rum. There are myths and legends about which of two locations is the true inventor of the pina colada, but one visit to Barrachinarestaurant in Old San Juan and the answer is clear: This is it. The plaque out front marks the spot where the coconutty creamy cocktail was born in 1963. Drink it with Barrilito, one of the best rums made on the island. Other island favorites include Serralles, Trigo, and of course, rum giant Bacardi, whose distillery is open for tours and tastings daily.

5.El Yunque National Forest The only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest System, the El Yunque National Forest is home to rare species of plants and animals, including the endangered Puerto Rican Parrot. Its most popular trail, La Mina, crisscorsses the rive by the same name, for plenty of photo ops en route to beautiful waterfalls. Even closer to home, the Rockefeller Nature Trail, allows guests of Dorado Beach properties to make an 11-mile hike through the rainforest to the sea. Prefer to get up close to the tree canopies? There are ziplining adventures as well!

Not to mention:

  • If you’re a history buff, you’ll love the old world charm of San Juan!
  • If you are adventurous, you’ll love to go horseback riding, or exlore the magnificent Camuy caverns that run through the 3rd largest subterranean river in the world!|
  • If you are there for the food? You will be in HEAVEN exploring the delicacies of Puerto Rican gastronomy!
