Are You Considering a Career in Social Work? Check Out Your Options

Are you considering a career in social work? There are many different avenues to pursue, and each one comes with its own benefits to the community. Here are just five career paths for social workers that can really make a difference.

1: Healthcare

Social workers in the healthcare industry are employed in a variety of facilities, including hospitals, hospices, nursing homes and ambulatory care centers. They might handle everything from grief counseling to paperwork administration. If you have strong interpersonal skills and a loving heart for those in need, public health might be your calling.

2: Community Organization

It takes a village. If you’re looking to stimulate the emotional and economic growth of your community, becoming a social worker in community organization can give you the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed. You can even take these skills abroad if you’re a fan of travel and international spirit.

3: Mental Health

Social workers that specialize in mental health have made a commitment to helping people on an individual basis. They might work as therapists, mediators or crisis counselors in places like schools, hospitals and psychiatric facilities. As long as you have an open mind, you’ll find mental health work both challenging and diverse.

4: Substance Abuse

As one of the more demanding fields of social work, the treatment of substance abuse requires patience, compassion and understanding. If you have what it takes to navigate the waters of addiction, however, you can save countless lives from despair by helping them through the lowest points in their lives. This will then help the community by empowering its citizens to live safe and productive lives.

5: Social Change

Are you looking to make a difference on a global scale? Consider a career in social change. All it takes is a master’s degree from somewhere like Case Western University, and you’ll be well on your way to fighting poverty, oppression and human rights violations all around the world.

These are just five ways to change your community and the world through social work. If you’re ready to embark on a meaningful and satisfying career, look no further than a job that allows you to help humanity one person at a time.

Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one.

Top Five Tips for a Successful Kitchen Remodel

This is a sponsored post on behalf of CliqStudio.com. All opinions are my own.

One of the great things about being a homeowner is the fun and excitement of being able to make the house yours. We are talking far beyond just decor, but the moment when you get to remodel a room that you’ve spent years dreaming about. At least that’s how I felt when we moved into our home and I started my plans for our kitchen remodel. My husband is quite a handy person, so we thought that we could do a lot of work on our own and just bang out the project quickly. Boy was I wrong!

We assumed we could knock this project out over a long weekend – since we didn’t have to move or deal with any electrical projects, we figured we were on the highway to a new kitchen in 3 days or less. What started as a 3 day project turned into a 30 day project – and me doing dishes in our bathtub.  No matter how handy you are, or what a great jack-of-all-trades that your husband is, when you are working on a big project something is bound to go wrong.

In honor of great remodel wreckers everywhere, Cliqstudios.com has provided us with the Top Five Tips for a Successful Kitchen Remodel, as well as the Top Three Traps to Avoid. Cliqstudios.com is a company that combines savings and convenience with high quality cabinets and a design service committed to give you more for your
money. They work with you personally  to help you make smart choices and turn your dream kitchen into a reality.

Clean Up Your Drinking Water with Adya Clarity

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Adya Clarity. All opinions are my own.

WL-Logo

For months it felt like no matter what I did, working out, eating right, drinking tons of water, I still couldn’t shake that ‘blah’ feeling, slight fatigue, and aches and pains. I started to contribute it to just getting older, running myself ragged taking care of the kids, working, etc. It wasn’t until I tried Adya Clarity that I realized that everyday toxins in not only our tap water but bottled water as well, were affecting my health.

Most of our water is filled with fluoride. Fluoride accumulates in your body, and causes negative effects over time – such as brain fogs, aches, pains, and fatigue. It is also contaminated with heavy metals – which can cause calcification, kidney stones, liver stones, affect your brain function, and put stress and havoc through your nervous system and causing illness over time. It causes stomach and intestinal problems that can lead to cancer, damage your reproductive system, birth defects, and skin problems.

Yuck right??! Drinking water which our Doctor’s tell us to do more of, can actually be making us sick, and possibly killing us. When I first read this information myself I wasn’t 100% convinced. Water is just water right? But day after day that I’ve continued to use Adya Clarity in all my drinking water I’ve felt better and  better – the aches and pains are minimal, I sleep through the night! I feel refreshed and ready to take on the day each morning – and I’m not ready to drop in my bed like a rock each night. It’s like the first few months when you first started working out – the refreshing feeling of taking care of your body.

Adya Clarity is clinically-proven to reduce heavy metals inside your body. It was tested by certified EPA labs to reduce up to 99% of toxins in your water. Adya was found to reduce Arsenic, Lead and Mercury to undetectable limits. In a 30 day human clinical study, Adya Clarity was found to reduce accumulated Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, and Aluminum in the human body by an average of 42%. Read more about the research on Adya Clarity here.

If you still aren’t convinced, give it a try. You can try a 2 oz bottle for just $25. You will be shocked at the difference it makes in your life – in fact, I believe in Adya Clarity so much that I am giving 1 lucky reader a bottle of their own to try! Just comment below with something you’ve learned about drinking water in the U.S.

Healthy Habits with Girl Scouts Journey & Together Counts™

This is a sponsored post on behalf of the Girl Scouts. All opinions are my own.

#HealthyHabits

GS Healthy Habits 2

As a young girl  I enjoyed being involved in the Brownies/Girl Scout troops with my friends. Not only did we have great fun together, but we did a lot of great stuff for the community. We were also always learning useful life skills – thanks to Girl Scouts I know how to properly sew on a button and make a pair of boxer shorts, balance a checkbook, and make a healthy meal – so I wanted to make sure my girls to have the same great learning experiences (and fun) that I had; so they joined girl scouts as soon as they were able.

The Girl Scouts still teach all the great things I learned when I was a kid; and they also have adapted to the needs of this generation with their lessons. Kids face a whole new era of challenges that we didn’t even dream about. That is why I am so grateful for the Girl Scouts Healthy Habits Journey – and their partnership with Together Counts™. The Together Counts™ campaign—a nationwide program by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation to inspire active and healthy living via physical activity and nutrition, a fundamental underpinning of efforts to reduce obesity. The principle behind the program is called Energy Balance, which just means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we expend. Through the use of these free resources for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors, Girl Scout volunteers and families can guide girls in fun, easy ways to achieve “energy balance

Energy In: the calories you get from eating and drinking.

o   Energy Out: the calories you burn from physical activities.

You can download a copy of the Healthy Habits Journey here.

  • The free booklets help guide girls on their Journey as they learn to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

GS Healthy Habits 1

Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. The percentage of children ages 6-11 yrs in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12-19 yrs who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period  (information gathered from the  CDC). Our children spend more time in doors then outside. Playing games on the computer, instead of in the back yard. Our food is more processed, and fast food is sometimes more affordable than homemade. The Girl Scout Journey / Together Counts™  gets our girls educated, motivated and moving to break the cycle and become active.
