Top 8 Things You Don’t Want to Miss in Corydon Indiana

As I mentioned a few weeks go the family & I had the opportunity to visit Corydon Indiana and explore all that it has to offer. I already told you the great places to eat and where to stay. Now I want to share with you all the great things you can do during your stay.

1 Indiana Caverns – I listed Indiana Caverns first because I absolutely had a blast during our day there. From the first step onto the property, the beauty and design was absolutely breathtaking (I’m sure it didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful day). When you explore the caverns you descend 110 feet underground, walking around and exploring the deep dark crevices of the caverns. The tour guides are AWESOME and knowledgeable; you get a Science & History lesson without even knowing it.You also get to take a 25 minute boat ride on the underground river. They are open year round, 9 – 5, 7 days a week. Typically you won’t wait over 30 minutes to start a tour, and tours last about an hour and a half.

They have the most awesome gift shop (just ask my kids!) and even their own gem mining area (which was also completely awesome). You buy a bag of ‘goodies’ in the gift shop, and you can sift for gold and other gems  This is definitely a place you do NOT want to miss during your trip!

2. Golf Shores Fun Center – no matter the season, Golf Shores has some putt-putt golfing fun for your family. They have an awesome outdoor (lighted for night time) golf course and a black-light mini golf course inside for the not so great weather (or if you just love the black lights). They also have a video arcade, snack bar, and coffee shop (you know, so we can keep up with the kids) and free Wi-Fi (another score for Mom & Dad!)

3. Marengo Caves – Marengo caves has a lot to offer.  From walking tours, cave exploration trips to gemstone mining, and canoeing adventures on the nearby Blue River there is something for everyone. If you are up for more of an adventure you can stay at their camp, or even rent a cabin.  I can’t wait to take a weekend and camp and going canoeing this coming spring. Definitely keep your eye out for more photos and post about Marengo Caves (follow the #AIADWTravels hashtag!)
4. Squire Boones Caverns Ziplining Adventures – Squire Boone and his brother, Daniel, discovered the Squire Boone caverns in 1790. Squire later escaped a band of hostile Indians by hiding in the caverns. Upon his death in 1815, Squire Boone was laid to rest within his beloved cave, as he had requested (which we got to see, an awesome piece of history). They have cavern tours, Boone’s Mill, a village full of stores, a rock shop, and one of the most awesome ziplining adventures EVER.  Not only do they offer zip lining for the adults, but kids as well. (My son  FREAKED, he had SO much fun!!!!)

Our zip line leaders were great, a lot of fun and very encouraging (even when the girls were a bit nervous at first). They were all pretty pumped by the end and even wanted to do it again! Squire Boone is a beautiful park, and I wish we would of had a bit more time to explore. I think next time around we will make a trip down and make sure to spend an entire day exploring (and zipping) throughout the entire place!

5. Deere Farms – Deere Farms has Southern Indiana’s largest corn maze (a family friendly, and a full blown I hope-you-aren’t-direction-illiterate-like-I-am maze) and pumpkin patch. They have TONS of fun stuff to keep you busy in addition to the corn maze and pumpkin patch They offer hayrides, a antique John Deere Tractor display, pony rides, farm animal tour & pig races, gem mining, bounce house, tire mountain, straw bale maze, an enclosed downhill slide, corn box, corn cannon (which my boys loved), barrel train rides, corn hole games and a bungee jump. They also offer a concessions with lots of great food, including apple cider slushes and pumpkin ice cream! Definitely another place you could spend an entire day at!

6. State Historic Sites – There is a ton of history here, all which are at your finger tips when you visit Corydon. The old Capitol Building, Governor’s Headquarters, Porter Law Offices, First State Office Building and Indiana’s only civil war battleground, Battle of Corydon.

7. Fall Down on the Square – 1 weekend a year (and yes we were lucky enough to be there). First Capital Christian Church host a family event free to everyone. The church provides games, food, carriage rides, candy, and some awesome music. I absolutely loved the small town feel of this event, and the kids had a blast. This is something I will be keeping my eye out for so we don’t miss it next year!
8.  Shopping Downtown – As I mentioned before Corydon is the home of the great Butt Drugs, who not only offers some yummy food, but some t-shirts as well to commemorate your visit. They also have the Old Town Store  which is 4,000 square feet of awesome antiques. You also have to check out Lil Rap, Town Square Gallery, Little Texas Consignment & Western Shop, and Collections of the Home Place.

There are tons more to do, and I really just touched the surface of the great things there are to do in this great little town!

Be sure to check out the #ThisIsIndiana hashtag on Instagram & Twitter to see some great photos from myself and other bloggers!

Fun with DohVinci Anywhere Art Studio

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Sverve & Hasbro. Though I was compensated for my time, all opinions are my own.

dovinciMy girls are always getting into art projects, on any given day there’s glitter, paint, markers, cut outs, poster board, and other crafty items laying all over my kitchen table (and yes this does make the clean up for dinner time extremely lonngg).  So anytime they find some great new art supplies, they are begging me to buy it so they can try it out.  Fortunately I was given the opportunity for us to review the DohVinci Anywhere Art Studio, and they couldn’t be happier.

dovinci dovinci Brought to you by the makers of Play-Doh the DohVinci Art Studio is a fun way to make art pieces without the use of common paints or markers. It’s a lot like the experience of a glue gun, but without electricity or hot, sticky messes. It also has a air-dry design compound and an awesome tool to create dimensional designs with 3D lines! If you  make a mistake, no problem, you just wipe it off and try it again – once you’re happy you let it dry and you are good to go, which was my girls favorite part. A lot of times when you are painting or drawing, its easy to mess up and just have to throw away whatever you’re painting on, and have to start new. This way if you make a mistake you can ‘erase’ the area and start fresh. It comes with an easel and storage case, 3 art boards, 2 blank design boards, Styler and 4 Deco Pop tubes. A perfect starter kit!

dohvinci2

We also love that you don’t have to just use the art boards. If  you’re feeling extra crafty, the design compound also sticks to surfaces like wood craft, cardboard, paper, and other materials. (Be  careful, it can stain furniture!) The girls had a couple picture frames they wanted to decorate, and they are coming along quite nicely. We plan to buy some more deco pop tubes to finish our creations.

The girls also love they can take this on the go. They both put theirs in their book bags to take to their Grandma’s after school so they can get crafty then as well. The storage case keeps the deco pop tubes and art boards nice and organized and easy to travel with.

Check out all the other great DohVinci products  online, or find them at your local Walmart!

5 Ways to Sleep Like a Baby

If you are anything like me, you’ve had nights that you would of been better off staying up and getting something done instead of tossing and turning and begging for sleep to find you. Not getting enough sleep effects everything about your day. How you eat, how you concentrate, how you react to situations. After years of restless nights, I’ve found a few helpful tips that help me sleep like a baby.sleep_like_a_Baby

Try Natural Remedies. Certain herbal teas can help you relax and fall asleep. Chamomile is a popular- it slows the nervous system and promotes relaxation. As always, consult your health care provider, use herbs and other supplements only as directed and make sure to read labels. Some herbs may react with certain types of medication or cause adverse effects in individuals with certain diseases.

Watch What You Eat & Drink. As you lie down to sleep, acids in the stomach level out, making heartburn and indigestion more likely to occur. Also, your metabolism increases slightly to digest food, which can also raise your energy level. Stop eating at least three hours before your scheduled bedtime. If you must snack on something, keep it small, and avoid high-fat foods, which take longer to digest. Say no to stimulants like caffeine and nicotine, which can raise blood pressure and energy levels. Alcohol may be a depressant, but after its sedative effects wear off, your sleep patterns will suffer.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Most of us lead very stressful lives. Stress, surprises, and changes can take a toll on your sleep habits. Schedule some downtime each day for relaxing activities like stretching or a hot bath. Try to decrease your brain activity by writing or reading or just listening to music. If thinking keeps you up at night, get out of bed and try to be productive. Make a list if you are worried about forgetting something, go ahead and get up and do what you were afraid of forgetting, and afterwards you may sleep better.

Create a Routine. I know sometimes this is nearly impossible for us that are parents – between the kids activity schedules, and your daily to do list it makes it hard to stay on a routine/set schedule. Even on busy days, it is difficult—but crucial—to be firm with a routine. If you normally don’t fall asleep until the wee hours of the morning, or if you don’t have a sleep schedule at all, try going to bed a half an hour earlier each week, or set a time to get in bed and stick with it. Eventually your body will get used to going to sleep at that time and it will begin to come naturally.

See Your Doctor. If you toss and turn most nights, it may be time to see a physician. You could be suffering from one or more sleep disorders, including insomnia and sleep apnea. The sooner you find out what’s wrong, the sooner you can fix it. Sleep disorders are dangerous to your health, so if you suspect something is wrong, tend to it immediately.

What are your tips for getting a good nights sleep??

Support Our Troops With the Comforts From Home Project

Today one of my good friends husband finally made it home from Afghanistan. After 12 long months her and her children were beyond excited to see him. This wasn’t their first rodeo, after many years in the Army she knew just what to expect. After all the love and kisses from herself and the kids, she knew just what he wanted. He wanted to feel at home. He wanted a home-cooked meal, a shower longer than 5 minutes and a bed that didn’t roll up.
She knew that him being gone was the worst kind of home sickness a person can get. Every month he was gone she would put a care package together for him to give him the comforts of home he couldn’t get over seas. Books to read, music to listen to, drawings form the kids, and letters from her.
It seems like unless we see it everyday, we don’t really realize the sacrifices that our service men and woman are giving up for their country on a daily basis.

Christines_family

This month Marie Callender’s is launching the Comforts from Home Project by supporting our troops, and help by bringing a little bit of home to the service men and women overseas that sacrifice so much for us; and you can help too!

comforts_from_home_project

The #ComfortsFromHome Project donates money directly to the USO Program. Through their frozen meals they are ensuring that soldiers get those little ‘comforts’ from home: books, games, computers, basketballs, footballs, etc. They do all this by giving the families on the state side a break too – wholesome quality ingredients in a meal that is easy to serve.

Here’s How it Works:

  1. Buy a Marie Callender’s frozen dinner with a code.
  2. Enter that code on this website (Up  to five codes a day)
