4 Tips to Beat Bedwetting

This is a sponsored post on behalf of GoodNites® & Cafe Mom. Though I was compensated for my time, all opinions are my own.

Bedwetting can be an extremely frustrating and embarrassing condition; for both the child and the parent. Though your child may feel like they are alone an estimated 1 in 6 children still wet the bed after the age of 4. Here are a few tips that we’ve found to help beat bedwetting, but you should always talk to your doctor if you have concerns.

  1. Stop the Shaming

While most children grow out of the bedwetting phase one thing they will not grow out of is the shaming, and self-esteem issues that can be caused when parents blame the child for the accidents. Bedwetting can be stressful enough to a child and they don’t need any shaming from their parents. Be encouraging, let them know that they will grow out of it and that you are there for them no matter what. Give them lots of encouragement and love. Also make sure that no one is allowed to tease them about the bedwetting and don’t discuss the issue with those outside the family. This is a personal issue that will most likely resolve itself.

  1. Encourage Bathroom Trips Before Bed

This is a pretty basic step, but very important in the ‘dry night’ process. Have your child use the bathroom while starting their bedtime routine – before putting on their pajamas, brushing their teeth, reading the bedtime story. When it’s time to tuck them in take them one more time. Making sure they have an empty bladder before falling asleep can reduce the amount of wet nights.

  1. Talk to Your Doctor about Fluid Intake

By no means should you prevent your child from having a drink if they are really thirsty; but sometimes drinking constantly can be just a habit. When dealing with bedwetting it is ideal to talk to your Doctor about fluid intake. They may have some suggestions. Definitely keep away any drinks that contain caffeine as well. Caffeine actually increases the amount of urine produced, so they will actually need to use the bathroom more often if they are drinking caffeine.

  1. Keep them Dry

Recently I discovered the GoodNites* TRU-FIT* Underwear which are life savers – and they have built the self esteem of my son unlike other diaper-like counterparts. The GoodNites* TRU-FIT* Underwear with Disposable Inserts keep sheets and PJ’s dry all night with outstanding nighttime protection. They are ultra-soft breathable cotton-blend underwear, with an inside water-repellent barrier and coating that is fully sealed at the seams and provides dry comfort. They also have an elastic waistband that stays comfortable and snug even after it’s washed.

What I really love about these is we can have his cousin spend the night or a friend and not worry about the embarrassment of diaper-like protection. We keep extra pairs in the bathroom in a basket under the sink so if there is any type of accident he can take care of it himself without anyone knowing. This is definitely a revolutionary product that myself -and my son- are so grateful for.

Do you have a child that suffers from bedwetting? What are some of your tips for beating bedwetting?

Space Crafts & Facts: Plus Interstellar Movie Releases IMAX Nov 5th/ Everywhere Nov 7th

This blog post is part of a paid SocialMoms and Paramount Pictures blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own

When I was a kid my dream was to become an Astronaut.  I was in that Punky Brewster/ Challenger era where we were obsessed with the thought of galaxy’s far, far away. The dream of going up into space and seeing all the stars, and the planets made me – and many of my classmates -super excited. Anytime there’s been a space launch I’ve watched or listened on the radio. There is just something so fascinating about the whole process. What’s out there? What is it like to look down on the earth from above?

My kids haven’t really been around long enough to know the excitement of astronauts going off into space – sure they’ve heard of it, but to watch it on T.V. as they countdown and feel the rush of excitement as it takes off? They don’t understand what I’m so excited about.
To get them excited about what is to “infinity and beyond” I decided to find some creative space/science crafts and projects. I found a ton of stuff for us to do! I put together a great round-up of things to do, you can check them out here.  (Here’s a preview of some of the great things I found).

My daughter’s have started their own research about Space and even started requesting some books at the library (Score 1 for Mom). They also found this really awesome articles including my favorite,  8 Facts About Space That Will Rock Your World (seriously – it’s true, it totally will – for example, did you  know the Apollo astronauts  footsteps on the moon will probably stay there for 100 million years? Talk about leaving your mark on the world!). They’ve really taken such an interest in it, that after watching the previews for the new Interstellar Movie I knew I was going to have to make it a family event. (Plus what Mom doesn’t love Matthew McConaughey??!)

Synopsis of the movie: With our time on Earth coming to an end, a team of explorers undertakes the most important mission in human history; traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars.

I absolutely cannot wait to see this movie! With the stellar effects and drama, we are definitely taking in this movie via IMAX!

Top 8 Things You Don’t Want to Miss in Corydon Indiana

As I mentioned a few weeks go the family & I had the opportunity to visit Corydon Indiana and explore all that it has to offer. I already told you the great places to eat and where to stay. Now I want to share with you all the great things you can do during your stay.

1 Indiana Caverns – I listed Indiana Caverns first because I absolutely had a blast during our day there. From the first step onto the property, the beauty and design was absolutely breathtaking (I’m sure it didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful day). When you explore the caverns you descend 110 feet underground, walking around and exploring the deep dark crevices of the caverns. The tour guides are AWESOME and knowledgeable; you get a Science & History lesson without even knowing it.You also get to take a 25 minute boat ride on the underground river. They are open year round, 9 – 5, 7 days a week. Typically you won’t wait over 30 minutes to start a tour, and tours last about an hour and a half.

They have the most awesome gift shop (just ask my kids!) and even their own gem mining area (which was also completely awesome). You buy a bag of ‘goodies’ in the gift shop, and you can sift for gold and other gems  This is definitely a place you do NOT want to miss during your trip!

2. Golf Shores Fun Center – no matter the season, Golf Shores has some putt-putt golfing fun for your family. They have an awesome outdoor (lighted for night time) golf course and a black-light mini golf course inside for the not so great weather (or if you just love the black lights). They also have a video arcade, snack bar, and coffee shop (you know, so we can keep up with the kids) and free Wi-Fi (another score for Mom & Dad!)

3. Marengo Caves – Marengo caves has a lot to offer.  From walking tours, cave exploration trips to gemstone mining, and canoeing adventures on the nearby Blue River there is something for everyone. If you are up for more of an adventure you can stay at their camp, or even rent a cabin.  I can’t wait to take a weekend and camp and going canoeing this coming spring. Definitely keep your eye out for more photos and post about Marengo Caves (follow the #AIADWTravels hashtag!)
4. Squire Boones Caverns Ziplining Adventures – Squire Boone and his brother, Daniel, discovered the Squire Boone caverns in 1790. Squire later escaped a band of hostile Indians by hiding in the caverns. Upon his death in 1815, Squire Boone was laid to rest within his beloved cave, as he had requested (which we got to see, an awesome piece of history). They have cavern tours, Boone’s Mill, a village full of stores, a rock shop, and one of the most awesome ziplining adventures EVER.  Not only do they offer zip lining for the adults, but kids as well. (My son  FREAKED, he had SO much fun!!!!)

Our zip line leaders were great, a lot of fun and very encouraging (even when the girls were a bit nervous at first). They were all pretty pumped by the end and even wanted to do it again! Squire Boone is a beautiful park, and I wish we would of had a bit more time to explore. I think next time around we will make a trip down and make sure to spend an entire day exploring (and zipping) throughout the entire place!

5. Deere Farms – Deere Farms has Southern Indiana’s largest corn maze (a family friendly, and a full blown I hope-you-aren’t-direction-illiterate-like-I-am maze) and pumpkin patch. They have TONS of fun stuff to keep you busy in addition to the corn maze and pumpkin patch They offer hayrides, a antique John Deere Tractor display, pony rides, farm animal tour & pig races, gem mining, bounce house, tire mountain, straw bale maze, an enclosed downhill slide, corn box, corn cannon (which my boys loved), barrel train rides, corn hole games and a bungee jump. They also offer a concessions with lots of great food, including apple cider slushes and pumpkin ice cream! Definitely another place you could spend an entire day at!

6. State Historic Sites – There is a ton of history here, all which are at your finger tips when you visit Corydon. The old Capitol Building, Governor’s Headquarters, Porter Law Offices, First State Office Building and Indiana’s only civil war battleground, Battle of Corydon.

7. Fall Down on the Square – 1 weekend a year (and yes we were lucky enough to be there). First Capital Christian Church host a family event free to everyone. The church provides games, food, carriage rides, candy, and some awesome music. I absolutely loved the small town feel of this event, and the kids had a blast. This is something I will be keeping my eye out for so we don’t miss it next year!
8.  Shopping Downtown – As I mentioned before Corydon is the home of the great Butt Drugs, who not only offers some yummy food, but some t-shirts as well to commemorate your visit. They also have the Old Town Store  which is 4,000 square feet of awesome antiques. You also have to check out Lil Rap, Town Square Gallery, Little Texas Consignment & Western Shop, and Collections of the Home Place.

There are tons more to do, and I really just touched the surface of the great things there are to do in this great little town!

Be sure to check out the #ThisIsIndiana hashtag on Instagram & Twitter to see some great photos from myself and other bloggers!

Fun with DohVinci Anywhere Art Studio

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Sverve & Hasbro. Though I was compensated for my time, all opinions are my own.

dovinciMy girls are always getting into art projects, on any given day there’s glitter, paint, markers, cut outs, poster board, and other crafty items laying all over my kitchen table (and yes this does make the clean up for dinner time extremely lonngg).  So anytime they find some great new art supplies, they are begging me to buy it so they can try it out.  Fortunately I was given the opportunity for us to review the DohVinci Anywhere Art Studio, and they couldn’t be happier.

dovinci dovinci Brought to you by the makers of Play-Doh the DohVinci Art Studio is a fun way to make art pieces without the use of common paints or markers. It’s a lot like the experience of a glue gun, but without electricity or hot, sticky messes. It also has a air-dry design compound and an awesome tool to create dimensional designs with 3D lines! If you  make a mistake, no problem, you just wipe it off and try it again – once you’re happy you let it dry and you are good to go, which was my girls favorite part. A lot of times when you are painting or drawing, its easy to mess up and just have to throw away whatever you’re painting on, and have to start new. This way if you make a mistake you can ‘erase’ the area and start fresh. It comes with an easel and storage case, 3 art boards, 2 blank design boards, Styler and 4 Deco Pop tubes. A perfect starter kit!

dohvinci2

We also love that you don’t have to just use the art boards. If  you’re feeling extra crafty, the design compound also sticks to surfaces like wood craft, cardboard, paper, and other materials. (Be  careful, it can stain furniture!) The girls had a couple picture frames they wanted to decorate, and they are coming along quite nicely. We plan to buy some more deco pop tubes to finish our creations.

The girls also love they can take this on the go. They both put theirs in their book bags to take to their Grandma’s after school so they can get crafty then as well. The storage case keeps the deco pop tubes and art boards nice and organized and easy to travel with.

Check out all the other great DohVinci products  online, or find them at your local Walmart!
