ONE DAY ONLY! Join Planet Fitness for $1 down and then $10 a month

It’s Back to School – which means it’s time for you to get back on track! I always have a hard time sticking to my schedule when the kids don’t have a routine for the summer (that’s why they call it lazy summers right?) But it’s August and it’s time to start thinking about getting into shape and being prepared for all those holidays that are right around the corner. Personally, I prefer just to walk around with weighted clothing, but I should also exercise more.. I don’t know about you, but I’m already thinking about next summer! Right now is the perfect time to start preparing for next years summer bod!

With three kids in school – this Mama doesn’t have a whole lot of money or time for herself. With school supplies, school and sports fees, not to mention backpacks, tennis shoes and fall clothes – my budget is pretty tight. That’s why I love Planet Fitness.

planet_fitness12 On August 15, new members can join any Planet Fitness location for just $1 down and then $10 a month with no commitment.

The low monthly charge fits right into my budget – and with over 1,100 locations across the US, you are bound to find one near you.

Not to mention Planet Fitness fosters a Judgement Free Zone® – a non-intimidating, hassle-free, welcoming environment that makes everyone feel comfortable. AND.. wait for it…there aren’t any high pressure sales people. (I think that alone makes this membership worth its weight in gold!) I love my local Planet Fitness – there are gym buffs that I see almost every time I go (I think they might live there!) But there are also regular everyday people like me – working on or making sure, they stay healthy.

Most clubs are open 24/7 – so no matter how busy your schedule might be – they are there for you! My favorite time to go is after the kids are in bed, the dishes are done, and lunches are packed. I can relax and concentrate on me for a bit. Some time on the treadmill, the bike and sometimes the weights – and I come home to sleep like a baby!

planet_fitness_gymIf you have a bit more budget to spend, the PF Black Card® membership, is $19.99 a month and includes additional amenities such as the ability to bring a guest every day at no additional charge, use of massage chairs and tanning beds, and more. (I think it’s worth the extra $10 bucks – I bring a friend to help keep me on track!)

If you’ve followed me for awhile you know that I love a good adventure; my family loves all the fun we have at Kings Island, and we are lucky enough to live close enough to visit whenever we want! What makes it even better is when places I love support causes that are close to my heart.

Follow These Rules to Go Veggie or Vegan Without Giving Up

Making a major diet change is something a lot of people do. Some do it for their health, while others make a choice based on their morals. The two things can also be interlinked. Some of the most common diets to attempt are vegetarian and vegan diets. Not everyone is successful when they try to cut out meat and other animal products. It can be very difficult, especially if you want to eat out or buy ready-made items, such as sandwiches. It’s a learning process, and it can take a while to find a new normal. If you want to become vegetarian or vegan, try these tips to help you transition.

Start Off Gently

For some people, the best approach to becoming a vegetarian or vegan is to dive right in. It’s easier for them if they just cut themselves off completely. However, that doesn’t work for others. Suddenly eating a vegan or even vegetarian diet can be very hard. All of a sudden, you can’t eat a huge amount of things you ate before. Starting off slowly can help you out. You might cut out one type of meat at a time, or perhaps stop eating meat for certain meals. If you currently eat meat but want to be vegan, try transitioning to vegetarian first.

Don’t Rely Too Heavily on Substitutes

One thing many new vegetarians or vegans do is try to swap out their usual foods for “fake” versions. So they will buy meat substitutes and vegan cheeses, making them a primary part of their diet. These foods can be a great addition to what you eat. There are lots of useful dairy substitutes, for example. However, it’s important not to rely on them too much because they can be expensive. It’s much more sensible to make the bulk of your diet healthy, natural foods that are vegetarian/vegan. Pulses, beans, and grains are all healthy, filling, and cheap.

Find Recipe Inspiration

Making a significant dietary change can get you down when you see all the things you can eat and recipes you can’t cook. Trying to adapt things so that they’re vegetarian or vegan isn’t always easy. The best thing to do is to be on the lookout for healthy recipes that are designed for your diet. For example, if you look at Hampton Creek on Instagram and YouTube, you can find delicious and healthy vegan recipes. Don’t make the mistake of getting stuck eating the same three meals over and over again.

Experiment with Eating Out

Eating out can be tough when you have chosen to cut things out of your diet. It’s especially hard when you go out with other people who do eat meat or dairy products. You don’t want to end up eating a salad or pasta with tomato sauce every time. As well as looking for vegetarian and vegan restaurants, search for those that offer tasty vegan and veggie options.
You might have times when you want to give up on your new diet. Remind yourself of why you made the change to help you keep going.

I Scream, You Scream – We all Scream for Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

One of my families guilty pleasures is dessert – more specifically ice cream. Especially during the summer. We are always on the look out for delicious new flavors and brands, and when I was given the opportunity to try the JACK NICKLAUS Premium Ice Cream Flavors I knew my family would be up for the challenge!

Before we dipped out the cones, we all grabbed a spoon and decided to see which flavors we liked best – after all, you need to sample to see which one you like best!

We had quite a few flavors to chose from – warm spiced butter pecan, chocolate peanut butter swirl, salted caramel toffee, homemade vanilla, strawberry lemonade and triple chocolate.

They were all absolutely delicious – my daughters both had their own favorites. Homemade vanilla and strawberry lemonade. My son and I however found a flavor that we could not put down (in fact, we ate it all up!) triple chocolate! The triple chocolate ice cream has brownies and dark chocolate flavored chunks – heaven in a carton!!!

Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Family Movie Night at Home

This is a sponsored post: all opinions are 100% mine.

Though I am sad to see summer come to an end, I’m excited about our fall/winter traditions that I’ve been missing. A few times a month (or more often if it’s really cold outside!) our family has a family movie night – one of the rare times that you can find my entire family home and altogether in the same room.

Though I love our family time together it can sometimes get a bit pricey. Between going out and renting movies, picking up pizza and stopping by the store for popcorn and candy – it can sometimes go way over budget fast. So over the years I’ve came up with a few ideas that can help keep your fun movie night on budget.

Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Family Movie Night at Home ubheading

Pizza. Our movie nights are never complete without a pizza party! It’s been this way since I can remember, even when I was a kid at home. Friday nights were always pizza, popcorn – and movies! But picking up pizza every week can get a little pricey, not to mention not always the healthiest option. So instead of always picking up pizza from the pizzeria, we’ve started making our own individual pizzas at home! Depending on what we have on hand, we will use garlic bread, pita bread, or pre-made individual crusts to make our own personal pizzas. The kids love it (especially the older ones who are starting to get really picky about what they eat). I always have homemade pizza sauce on hand, and plenty of cheese. We use whatever else we may have in the frig leftover from the week for the rest of the toppings – chicken, steak, veggies – you name it. One of our favorite concoctions was the left over chicken and alfredo sauce from dinner the night before. We made white sauce pizza with chicken and it was delish! This is definitely a more affordable way to enjoy dinner during our movie night – plus its a lot of fun getting creative with the kids!

Popcorn and Snacks. I’m usually pretty good about making sure our pantry is well stocked with plenty of snacks; I watch for sales at the store, or stock up at places like Sam’s Club or Costco. However, if we are low or out, I always hit up the local dollar store.
The kids actually like when I’m ill prepared. The dollar store carries ‘movie theater’ candies, all in their individual boxes for only a buck. They each get to pick their favorite, and I love that they can’t over do it with sweets – they get just enough for the night and it didn’t cost me a ton. The dollar stores also carry popcorn, even the yummy movie theater butter kind. They will always be cheaper than making an emergency run to the grocery store. . and it keeps you on budget.

Movies. So this is where it can get a bit tricky. I have little kids and teenage kids – so sometimes agreeing on a movie can be, well..a bit difficult. There are nights that I would come home with 3 or 4 movies to appease the masses, and when you x that by the $$ … not to mention, I’ve always been really bad about remembering to return them in time the next day – or even the day after that. So lets just say I had a really hard time staying on budget. That was until I discovered VUDU.

VUDU Top Picks

VUDU is instant, on-demand streaming of your favorite movies and TV. No membership fees, no subscriptions. Own it or rent it, pay only for what you want, when you want it. I love that I don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee for something I might not use every month – especially during the summer. VUDU is easy to use, and able to be accessed from some of your favorite entertainment sources like Roku, Chromecast, gaming consoles (we use our Xbox!) smart TV’s, and of course even download the Vudu app on your phone! It has great quality too – it actually requires less bandwidth for the higher resolution.

There are no late fees  – you normally have a 30 day window to begin watching a movie, and then a whole 24 hours to finish it!

VUDU has been a life changer in our family ,movie nights – no more second guessing standing in front of tons of movies to pick, or worrying about returning them the next day. Our first movie we watched on VUDU was Angry Birds – one that all my kids were excited to see! There were a ton of family friendly movies to pick from, and even some I will want to watch after the kids go to bed!
