I Scream, You Scream – We all Scream for Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

One of my families guilty pleasures is dessert – more specifically ice cream. Especially during the summer. We are always on the look out for delicious new flavors and brands, and when I was given the opportunity to try the JACK NICKLAUS Premium Ice Cream Flavors I knew my family would be up for the challenge!

Before we dipped out the cones, we all grabbed a spoon and decided to see which flavors we liked best – after all, you need to sample to see which one you like best!

We had quite a few flavors to chose from – warm spiced butter pecan, chocolate peanut butter swirl, salted caramel toffee, homemade vanilla, strawberry lemonade and triple chocolate.

They were all absolutely delicious – my daughters both had their own favorites. Homemade vanilla and strawberry lemonade. My son and I however found a flavor that we could not put down (in fact, we ate it all up!) triple chocolate! The triple chocolate ice cream has brownies and dark chocolate flavored chunks – heaven in a carton!!!

Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Family Movie Night at Home

This is a sponsored post: all opinions are 100% mine.

Though I am sad to see summer come to an end, I’m excited about our fall/winter traditions that I’ve been missing. A few times a month (or more often if it’s really cold outside!) our family has a family movie night – one of the rare times that you can find my entire family home and altogether in the same room.

Though I love our family time together it can sometimes get a bit pricey. Between going out and renting movies, picking up pizza and stopping by the store for popcorn and candy – it can sometimes go way over budget fast. So over the years I’ve came up with a few ideas that can help keep your fun movie night on budget.

Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Family Movie Night at Home ubheading

Pizza. Our movie nights are never complete without a pizza party! It’s been this way since I can remember, even when I was a kid at home. Friday nights were always pizza, popcorn – and movies! But picking up pizza every week can get a little pricey, not to mention not always the healthiest option. So instead of always picking up pizza from the pizzeria, we’ve started making our own individual pizzas at home! Depending on what we have on hand, we will use garlic bread, pita bread, or pre-made individual crusts to make our own personal pizzas. The kids love it (especially the older ones who are starting to get really picky about what they eat). I always have homemade pizza sauce on hand, and plenty of cheese. We use whatever else we may have in the frig leftover from the week for the rest of the toppings – chicken, steak, veggies – you name it. One of our favorite concoctions was the left over chicken and alfredo sauce from dinner the night before. We made white sauce pizza with chicken and it was delish! This is definitely a more affordable way to enjoy dinner during our movie night – plus its a lot of fun getting creative with the kids!

Popcorn and Snacks. I’m usually pretty good about making sure our pantry is well stocked with plenty of snacks; I watch for sales at the store, or stock up at places like Sam’s Club or Costco. However, if we are low or out, I always hit up the local dollar store.
The kids actually like when I’m ill prepared. The dollar store carries ‘movie theater’ candies, all in their individual boxes for only a buck. They each get to pick their favorite, and I love that they can’t over do it with sweets – they get just enough for the night and it didn’t cost me a ton. The dollar stores also carry popcorn, even the yummy movie theater butter kind. They will always be cheaper than making an emergency run to the grocery store. . and it keeps you on budget.

Movies. So this is where it can get a bit tricky. I have little kids and teenage kids – so sometimes agreeing on a movie can be, well..a bit difficult. There are nights that I would come home with 3 or 4 movies to appease the masses, and when you x that by the $$ … not to mention, I’ve always been really bad about remembering to return them in time the next day – or even the day after that. So lets just say I had a really hard time staying on budget. That was until I discovered VUDU.

VUDU Top Picks

VUDU is instant, on-demand streaming of your favorite movies and TV. No membership fees, no subscriptions. Own it or rent it, pay only for what you want, when you want it. I love that I don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee for something I might not use every month – especially during the summer. VUDU is easy to use, and able to be accessed from some of your favorite entertainment sources like Roku, Chromecast, gaming consoles (we use our Xbox!) smart TV’s, and of course even download the Vudu app on your phone! It has great quality too – it actually requires less bandwidth for the higher resolution.

There are no late fees  – you normally have a 30 day window to begin watching a movie, and then a whole 24 hours to finish it!

VUDU has been a life changer in our family ,movie nights – no more second guessing standing in front of tons of movies to pick, or worrying about returning them the next day. Our first movie we watched on VUDU was Angry Birds – one that all my kids were excited to see! There were a ton of family friendly movies to pick from, and even some I will want to watch after the kids go to bed!

4 Gadgets To Get If You’re Trying To Lose Some Weight

Whether you have quite a bit of a tummy tyre to lose or you’re just trying to get rid of the last 5 kilos, losing at least a bit of weight is a priority for most people. However, succeeding at our weight loss goals is much more difficult than setting them! With some helpful gadgets at home however, you can set some goals you can really achieve, and get to your goal weight in less time.

Skipping rope

A skipping rope is an amazing, yet underrated gadget to help with weight loss. While most of us haven’t played with a skipping rope since childhood, skipping provides an excellent cardiovascular workout that can be used pretty much anytime and anywhere. A skipping rope helps to get your blood pumping and heart racing in a short time, meaning you reach a heart rate where your body is burning fat and calories quickly. In fact skipping can burn up to a massive 1300 calories an hour, whereas slow walking burns just 300 calories an hour!

A skipping rope is also a great tool to practise high intensity interval workouts, where you work very hard for anywhere from 10 second to one minute, then take a short rest, and repeat the procedure. This style of exercise has been shown to more effectively burn fat and calories and strengthen muscles than continuous cardiovascular exercise like walking. And with skipping ropes being dirt cheap, there’s no excuse not to use this awesome fat burning exercise gadget to lose weight!

A treadmill

Owning your own home treadmill is the ultimate tool to help you build fitness, lose weight and keep it off. Everyone dreams of having their own exercise equipment at home to work out on their own time and terms, in the privacy and convenience of their own home. Although many people feel that buying a home treadmill is perhaps too expensive or bulky for their home, the reality is that there are a fantastic range of treadmills on the market today to suit any budget or any sized home. With highly rated budget models starting at just US$200, that have a range of amazing features and even fold away for storage, you shouldn’t look past this excellent option to lose weight at home.

A treadmill is a highly effective workout gadget that allows you to walk, jog or run in your own home, away from crowds at the gym, and no matter what the weather. Using a treadmill means your joints are more supported by the specially engineered running surface, unlike the surface of the road or pavement. This means your joints are more protected while you workout and lose weight. With versatile functions and features that make it appealing for everyone to work out, a home treadmill is the perfect choice of a gadget to help you lose weight.

A workout DVD

If aerobics, dance, or circuit training are your favourite work out styles, or you love the motivation and inspiration an exercise instructor can provide, then check out some of the incredible workout DVD’s on offer. With a huge range of different programs and styles, at many different skill levels to suit all users, you can find something you will love, to help you lose weight and maintain motivation over the long term.

Ensure you have enough space in your TV room and your doctor gives you the go ahead to start a home work out program, because many of these programs really give you a fantastic workout and are not for the faint of heart! Workout DVD’s are generally inexpensive, although some may require the purchase of other inexpensive equipment, like small dumbbells or resistance bands. A good DVD can provide an awesome fun workout in the comfort of your own home – something everyone will love!

A rowing machine

A rowing machine is a fantastic gadget to help lose weight at home, providing an intense total body workout that burns fat and calories, and strengthens muscles considerably, helping you to lose weight and tone your body fast. Rowing machines have the added benefit of putting no strain on your lower back and joints, unlike some other forms of cardiovascular exercise.
Rowing can burn up to 750 calories an hour, an incredible fat burning workout. Providing all the other benefits of an effective cardiovascular workout, such as improved endurance, increased muscle strength, better moods and stress relief, rowing is a great exercise for an extremely effective work out that is still gentle on the joints and back.

What Does Your Car Do for You?? What To Look for in a New Car

I got my license in 1997 after a year of driving on my temporary permit. My Mom & Dad wanted to make sure that I had plenty of practice before driving on my own; knowing how to merge into traffic, when to go or stop when the light turns yellow (that was a rough one for me), and of course parking. Since I’m still here 19 years later – I guess I did an OK job. But not everything went so smoothly.

When I was 17 portable GPS systems were not available. We got places by using handy dandy road maps, and eventually online help like Mapquest. I remember taking my little sister with me to pick up balloons and a cake for one of our family members birthdays. It was one of the first times I was on the interstate by myself, and I had no idea which way was home. East and West was a foreign concept to me (and to be honest, still pretty much is). I figured that I could just pick one way and eventually I’d see something I’d recognize… and I was right. After completely looping the i275 loop instead of going the opposite way and getting on the right exit – 2 hours later we were home. I’m pretty sure that I will never live that story down; and thankfully I didn’t take us anywhere we shouldn’t have been. But what a time waster right? After my trip to Florida from Cincinnati just a few weeks ago I realized that I would have never made it without my GPS. . and a few other tech features.

Which got me thinking, What do you look for when buying a new vehicle?

Mommy-Blog-BU-Cam

GPS. When a GPS is installed in your vehicle, you don’t have to worry about forgetting it, it getting lost, or someone borrowing it. It usually has a voice activation which means you don’t have to worry about pushing buttons or trying to select a location while you drive. Safety first!

Back-up Cameras. Where have you been all my life?? Though I don’t 100% rely on these cameras (you still need to look because people or pets can come from the sides where your camera doesn’t see) this helps give you a direct view behind your vehicle – which can be extremely helpful if you are driving a larger vehicle where it would be hard to see little kids in the rear view mirror. Some even help ‘direct’ you to show you where you are headed as you back up based on the way your steering wheel is turned (I think this will help a lot of soon-to-be drivers with their maneuverability test!)

family in the car

Lane Change Notification. The first time I drove a vehicle with this feature it was when I rented a SUV to take the kids and my best friend to Myrtle Beach. I thought I was going crazy at first – each time I changed a lane (or started to veer towards the line) my seat vibrated on that side! If I veered to the left, the left side vibrated, and then if I did to the right, the right vibrated. This is a great feature, especially for long drives!

What other car safety features help you keep you and your family safe on the road??

#MyCarDoesWhat4Me is a national campaign to help educate drivers on new vehicle safety technologies designed to help prevent crashes. These technologies range from increasing the stability and control of cars to providing warnings about crash threats to automatically intervening to avoid or reduce the severity of a crash.

The campaign’s website, MyCarDoesWhat.org, includes educational videos and other information about a variety of safety technologies including back-up cameras, blind spot monitoring systems, forward collision alerting and other systems that help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of a crash.

The National Safety Council and the University of Iowa partnered to launch MyCarDoesWhat to educate the public on how to best interact with these safety features to have better, safer driving experiences. #MyCarDoesWhat4Me
