Do I Need Special Permission Before I Start Building in my Backyard?

Do I need to ask permission to build?

If you are running out of space inside your property, you may be tempted to build on your outside space. It’s certainly a way of extending your floor space, and it can add value to your property; if done well. You should never just dive straight into a building project though; there are things that you need to consider. One of the major points to address is the need for permission.

If you are building on your property, the safest thing to do is tell the council about your plans, and ask if you need permission. The need for permission varies from place to place so it’s better to check first. If you do not check, you could be faced with problems further down the line.

What could happen if you do not check?

It may be tempting to just go ahead and build, without checking if you need permission to do so. After all, checking and permissions could take up valuable time, right? The truth is that getting permission to build can take time, but it’s still better to follow the correct procedure.

There is little point in saving time on your building project if you have to remove the structure at some point in the future. If you do not get the necessary permission before you build, you could be asked to return the property to its original condition. This is likely to be inconvenient and costly at any time, but imagine if it happens when you are trying to sell your home. You can save yourself from all this trouble by simply asking about permission before you build.

What else do you need to think about?

Getting permission is not the only thing you need to think about before you start to build. Here are some points to consider.

  • Have you factored wiggle room into your budget? It’s always good to have additional finances for unexpected situations.
  • Are risk strategies included in the building contract? Following on from the last point; it’s good to have plans should issues occur.
  • Do you know what is on your property? You may not always realise what utility pipes and cables, or other hidden obstacles, are present. This is why it’s a good idea to have construction surveying carried out. This enables you to see if there are any obstacles you could be facing.
  • Are payment arrangements included in the building contract? This is really important as you need to be aware of what you are required to pay, and when.

All of these points are vital to the success of your project.

Hopefully, you can see how important it is to ask if you need permission to build. For some small structures, permission may not be necessary, but it’s better to check and have peace of mind. Once you have permission in place, if needed, then you know you can go ahead with your plans.

Top Ways to Keeping Your Kids Healthy

This is a sponsored post; though I was compensated for my time all opinions are my own.

I know that everyone wants to do what is best for our children – figure out what vitamins and such to give them, feed them organic foods and healthy snacks and the list goes on. But step one in this process of raising healthy kids – is making Mom and Dad healthy first.

So many time we allow our health and mental welfare to fall between the cracks – between working and household duties, and running our kids from one practice to another, helping with homework and the list continues – we tend to allow our health to be low on the totem pole. Studies show that your mood and health will directly effect your children’s mood and health. So a happy/healthy parent generates a happy/healthy child.

There are obvious things you can do (along with your child) to be happy. Take time for yourself – read a book, take a walk, a warm bath, a nap even. Spend time outside of the house with friends. Exercise is obvious – it doesn’t have to be boring sweating along with everyone else in a boring gym. Go hiking, play racquetball, tennis, basketball. Eat in moderation; I’m not saying take away all the good stuff – just don’t eat all the ‘good’ stuff all the time! Eat fruits and veggies and meats and things that don’t come in a box.

Also making sure you take supplements or vitamins that benefit you the most – like DHA Brain Health for Adults.
vivaNUTRITION DHA BRAIN HEALTH offers all the algae sourced DHA you need to support a positive mood and brain health in just one or two soft gels a day. Since it supports a healthy mood, it in return also helps to aid proper digestion.
It was from a sustainable farmed algae and not from fish, so it’s from a purer, unadulterated and uncontaminated source. (the best!) It contains no synthetic colors, preservatives, gluten, dairy, yeast or wheat, and it’s non-GMO!

Another great supplement – this one for your kids. The vivaNUTRITION® Probiotics support the ideal balance between children’s good bacteria and otherwise non-beneficial bacteria that resides in the GI Tract. For its Probiotic product, vivaNUTRITION® chose one of the most widely studied probiotic strains, BB-12®, shown in multiple clinical studies to alleviate occasional digestive distress while supporting a child’s natural defenses. Perfectly balanced sweetness and fine powder texture in a single daily serving Ideal to consume as is, in water or in your favorite morning food or drink! (Contains NO synthetic colors, flavors, preservatives, gluten, yeast or wheat; non-GMO).

VivaNUTRITION has a lot of great products including the delish (and healthy) super fiber chia bars available in two flavors!

3 REASONS WHY YOU NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR LIVING ROOM WITH MODERN MID-CENTURY SOFAS

The 1950s’ and 1960s’ were an era of innovation and inspiration as revolutionary interior designers of the millennium introduced classic yet sophisticated pieces of furniture, paving the way for today’s modern and synonymous mid-century lines of sleek, vintage household fittings.

Embarking on modern Danish, American and Italian mid-century inspirations, Rove Concepts has proven to be a pioneering staple in favouring bodacious and classic designs of its modern sofas and armchairs. These mid-century pieces of modern furniture allow you to cast mere glimpses into the once glorious yet bohemian, suburban era.

1)    ATTRACTION TOWARDS MINIMALISM:

Mid-century modern furniture breathes and shrieks of exquisiteness and minimalism in all of its wholesome. For the likes of Herman Miller and George Nelson, and the love of breathtaking monochrome designs, mid-century furniture has always struck a harp towards minimalism and sophistication as once in the 90s.

Modern mid-century sofas, loveseats and armchairs still continue to embark on monochrome or dual-toned upholstery, thus abhorring several toned furniture panels to date. Ornamented or woven with wool and padded with polyurethane or polyester, embellish your living rooms with mid-century inspired modern sofas to get the subtle look of finesse and elegance.

Modern sofas possess leg finishes that are usually chrome, matte black or wooden. Most of today’s mid-century pieces of furniture are incredibly laid back and bodacious, curved and funky with abstract upholsteries. Today, interior design is challenging the way you see the world, and how you perceive on planning out your comfort zone.

2)    KEEPING UP WITH DEPTH AND SIMPLICITY:

Mid-century modern sofas have completely redefined our sense of achieving simplicity and remote tranquility within the vicinity of our homes. With a living room designed with flower vases, cube tables and subtle wall hangings, you definitely would need to have a suburban styled mid-century leather three-seater or a soft cloud-like sofa that pays homage to your coffee table and other essentials.

Decorate a living room with a shelf for your vases, books and other essentials, a couple of coffee tables and a modern mid-century sofa made up of soft fabric with a couple of down-sized cushions to help you succumb to peace and relaxation in all of its depth.

3)    LONG-LASTING INVESTMENT IN FURNITURE:

Before you know it, your sofa in the corner of your living room starts to wear out and needs sprucing up every season. With the leg finishes warranting a couple of strokes with varnishes or polishes, and the wool of the sofa peaking from under the torn fabric, you would think your worn out lounger needs an appropriate needle job at its most.

However, in these times, you can never bring the originality of your sofa back without spending a price capable to get you a better one, at least. Modern mid-century sofas are highly reputable in this case, as their soft fabric and ever-lasting framework never warrants a remedy or overhaul.

Modern mid-century furniture redefines extravagance in more ways than one – it is reliable, sound, and not at all inexpensive. Since it doesn’t help you to pronounce cheap at all, a one-time investment on some of the best buys of modern mid-century furniture will set you back for a raging lifetime – and that too, in all of its durability, exquisiteness and subtlety.

5 Mother’s Day Surprises to Look Forward

For this upcoming second Sunday of May, what are your plans? Are you bringing mother’s day flowers as a gift or taking your mom out somewhere? Well, in case, you still have not geared up for the upcoming Mother’s Day, you can take up some suggestions from the paragraph below. The element of surprise should be the spirit of your gift as that would excite your mom more than anything else.

Surprise # 1: Making a video for mom

This one is going to be fun! Gather your family members and relatives in this video and make a movie for her. These days, so many editing applications are available online and using these tools you can really make a good movie on her. Interview the family and relatives on your mom, capture some old photographs, show those locales that she loves – and make a clever mix of emotion and fun. Play the video in your giant TV screen in drawing room to surprise her. She is bound to get touched with this unique mom’s day gift.

Surprise # 2: Admission in some course

This one would be a dream come true for her. May be she always wanted to learn Salsa or piano. Or who knows may be in her twenties she wished to learn a foreign language or pottery. But with due course of time, she could not fulfil that desire. Now is the time to do so – what say? So, know that secret desire first and then inside the daily newspaper insert the admission form of that course. Be that bright smile on your mom’s face.

Surprise # 3: A day out with her

Leaving all the hassles of daily chores away, just going away to some place is an amazing feeling in itself. Just don’t worry about the day ahead and leave unplanned with your mom in your scooty. Have breakfast in a roadside Dhaba and drink water from the local pond. Some amazing feeling is hidden behind these activities. And your mom would enjoy a break from the monotony of daily life which would be simply rejuvenating for her soul.

Surprise # 4: Cook for her

Be it the boy or girl child, it is really a dream for a mom to eat something made by her children. She would be proud of you seriously. Make her sit with popcorn and cold drinks in front of TV screen and engage yourself in kitchen. If you cannot make all her favorite dishes, at least make one or two and order the rest from outside. But make sure to prepare the sweet dish yourself as that is auspicious. You can make mother’s day cupcakes for her.

Surprise # 5: Ways to relax

There are a few ways to relax and meditation and spa tops the chart. Either take her out to some spa salon or to some meditation center. She would feel younger than before for sure. You can also bring some essential oils and fragrant candles at home which she can use for her meditation and feel lighter.
