I grew up loving my little yorkie-poo mix Cuddles like she was part of the family – well, because she was. She slept in bed with me (under the covers and I always had to check on her because I didn’t know how she could sleep completely covered up at the bottom of my bed), she stood next to my chair at the table waiting for me to slip her some scraps, and she always listened to me when I needed to talk – or cry. Needless to say I was heartbroken when she passed away at 17 years old. I grew up with her and losing her was like losing a family member – I wasn’t sure I could love another; but I knew my kids needed to experience puppy love like I did!

Everyone loves little Mocha – she’s also a yorkie-poo mix, but quite a bit smaller than my Cuddles ever was. The Health Concern You Probably Don’t Think About

Life can be busy and stressful. There is so much to do each and every day that it can seem like there are not enough hours in the day or even days in the week. The days seem to fly by and before you know it, it’s the weekend again and you are wondering to yourself, how did that happen? Kids, work, school lunches, homework, carpool, extra-curricular activities – how to fit it all in? But we do! It is often at a cost though, and our health is often what is neglected.

The first thing we tend to neglect with the constant rush is our diet. We probably spend more time eating processed food than we actually do cooking. We have become an eat-on-the-go culture, finding the easiest things to eat while we drive or rush around – and this generally does not involve a salad!

If we can’t find the time to chop up a salad, chances are, we aren’t finding time to exercise either. With children running around, we most likely can’t even go to the bathroom in peace. All this can have detrimental effects, in ways you may not even imagine and some of them are actually quite embarrassing and often not even talked about – hair loss, excessive sweating, skin rashes and the classic, hemorrhoids!

What Are Hemorrhoids?

This is a very embarrassing topic for most people, however, it is actually a very common ailment with an estimated three out of four adults suffering from them at some point. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anus that are generally the result of increased pressure. They can develop both internally and externally and cause significant discomfort. They are particularly common during pregnancy and in people who are overweight. They are painful and itchy and really something you want to avoid.

What Can You Do?

Poor diet, lack of exercise, and constipation all contribute to the development of hemorrhoids. Here are some top tips to make sure you avoid this nasty, uncomfortable and painful condition.

Step Up Your Fiber Intake

Fiber helps with bowel movements and prevents constipation. Make sure to eat enough fruit and vegetables as these are great sources of fiber. Try making frequent trips to the water cooler to rehydrate as a way to move around and drink enough water.

No matter how busy our lives are, it is important to take care of ourselves. If our health starts to suffer, then we can’t do a good job taking care of our family either. Put your health first, you deserve it!
