Luvs Loves Babies

This post was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Luvs. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Have you ever watched Bet on Your Baby? Bet on Your Baby is a game show (hosted by the wonderful Melissa Peterman – who stars in ABC’s comedy “Baby Daddy”, but also played a big part in Reba, which is where I love her from!) Anyway, the series premiered last year and it’s a hoot! Each episode features fiver families with toddlers between the ages of  2 and 3 1/2 years old who play to see how well they can guess their child’s next move in order to win money toward their college fund.

Well this year Bet on Your Baby will be partnering with The Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to host a special episode!

luvs-nightlock-logo

The show “Bet On Your Baby” will air 8 episodes between May 31-July 19 and features toddlers ages 2-5 competing against themselves in a series of tasks/activities. The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals episode (airing June 14th) is going to feature Josh Miller and his parents Laura & Michael. Josh is 5 and was born without tibiae in his legs.  He has prosthetic legs and has already had multiple surgeries in his young life, including heart surgery.

CMNHospitals Logo_Horzontal

Keeping up with Joshua Miller isn’t easy, neither is keeping him down. Like the little engine that could, Josh never ever backs down from a challenge. It’s hard to imagine this strong little boy was at one time so fragile. His mom Laura was told during pregnancy Josh would be different. His condition: “Werner’s Mesomaliac Dysplasia With Hirshprungs.  It’s quite a mouthful,” Laura tells me.

Josh was born with multiple challenges inside and out. His most obvious difference: no tibias.  There was no bone connecting his knees to his feet, and he didn’t pop out with 10 fingers and toes. “Our son actually had 26 digits all together because he had 7 digits on each foot and 6 digits on each hand,” Laura explains.

“I’ve almost been through 8 surgeries. One was very difficult, Uhm heart surgery.  I almost died, but i lived through it.” Josh remembers.

At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles  Cardiologist Jackie Szmuszkovicz explains Josh was born with a defect that blocked blood flow, between his lungs and his heart.  Now that he’s recovered from open heart surgery, she marvels at how active he is today, “To me that’s the most important sign that his heart is doing well.

Laura still remembers living with the fear of all that could go wrong. Why didn’t it? “He hasn’t learned to feel sorry for himself. Hasn’t learned to be downtrodden,” she says.
On the contrary, Josh sees himself as a role model. He’s already competed in 3 triathalons to raise money for the Challenged Athlete Foundation., and he often meets with new amputees to showing them  all that he’s learned to do.

You can reach out to Joshua via his Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/GoTeamJJ?ref=ts&fref=ts.  For more on Children’s Hospital Los Angeles go to www.chla.org.

TWIX Bites Blended Treats

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and It’s Advertiser. This post is made up entirely of my own opinions. #Collective Bias #EatMoreBites

Though our family eats healthy on a regular basis we still enjoy sweet treats! Instead of purchasing high calorie treats from the store or fast food joints, we like to make our own. This way we can control what’s going in it, we know how much sugar,  the amount of calories, and we can make it just enough to enjoy instead of finishing a huge snack that makes us feel sick after were done (been there, done that!)

If you’ve ever made sweet treats with mini candies, you know it is a major pain in the tush to unwrap each individual piece before you can even start. I usually employee the kids for such duties which equals about half of the candies go missing (right into their tummies!) Recently when shopping at Walmart I found these great TWIX unwrapped Bites (along with other MARS candy) and I couldn’t help but grab a few bags. TWIX are my favorite candy bar! You can individual bags for snacking or big bags for baking. You can find them in the candy isle.

TWIX-Bites-at-Walmart

It didn’t take long for my kids to break into the bags (I don’t keep these types of sweets in the house on a regular basis) my son decided they’d be great to munch on while he watched a movie  and my girls were desperate for some ice cream treats because it’s been so hot out – I know, we shouldn’t be complaining already, but I think our  bodies are trying to adjust from the severe winter!

TWIX-Bites-3

I usually try to keep frozen yogurt in the house for those moments when I really just need a treat. So the girls and I decided to make some TWIX Bites Blended Treats – super simple and delicious.

TWIX-Bites-2

The best part about these – no wrappers! YAY! I was just able to throw them on a plate and do a bit of chopping, only takes a few seconds (depending on how many you are making).

TWIX-Bites-4

We counted out a serving of TWIX Bites and added it to the frozen yogurt. Can you say YUMM? It was just the right amount of sweet to curb that sweet craving.

Bondi Band Review & Giveaway

This is a sponsored post for BondiBand thru SWEATPink. I did receive product for review, but all opinions are my own.

I am a totally sweat mess when I work out. Heck, even when I am outside working in the yard, or like I am right now, sitting by the pool watching the kids. My hair sticks to everything and looks a mess no matter how many times I pat it down, or try to pull it back in a bun or ponytail (which is so not attractive on my big head). When I got a chance to review a Bondi Band headbands I was super excited! A  cute way to keep my sweaty hair off my forehead and neck – score!

bondiband

They have a great stock of think or thick headbands, for men, women, boys and girls. I got my favorite Wonder Woman headband, and it was stolen!! By my oldest daughter! We work out at the local gym together, and when she saw the band on my dresser she decided she looked better in it (she does). She hates pulling her hair back in a pony tail so the Bondi Bands are perfect for her.

bondi band review

She loved the bondi band, and unlike other headbands that slip, this one stayed right in while she jogged on the treadmill and did her weight training. She wasn’t  constantly whipping her hair away or dripping sweat into her eyes.. in fact, she already had her wish list for me to put in for her ‘back to school’ wardrobe full of different Bondi Bands!

All in a Days Work readers get a special discount code to save on their orders!  Use discount code: SWEATPINK discount code is good for 10% off all items except Bargain Bin, Design Your Own, and Custom Items. It is good thru June 28th.

DIY Furniture Painting with FrogTape

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape Brand Painter’s Tape for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My daughter has this awesome white desk that she’s been using for the past 4 years – recently the chair kicked the bucket (literally – the legs broke in half!) So we knew we needed to replace it. Though we could of just bought a regular desk chair, we wanted to keep it a matching set – so we were on a mission to find a cute sturdy chair to upcycle.

We got a chair from my sister who was replacing her kitchen chairs – it was perfectly sturdy, but really dark, so we decided to lighten it up a bit to match her desk. We bought some paint, some FrogTape and got to work!

FrogTape how-to

 photo 20140602_211412.jpg

Step 1:

Prep your piece of furniture. You can’t just slap on a coat of paint and call it a day. It will peel and chip and it will not last. The first thing I like to do before I paint a piece is to give it a good cleaning
 photo 20140602_211309.jpg
Step 2:

Plan your design; there are many different things you can do, or you can wing it. I recommend figuring out your pattern and measuring the FrogTape

 photo 20140602_211656.jpg
Step 3:
Once you’ve figured out what design you’re going to use, cover the table with FrogTape®. If you did a base coat, make sure it’s been dry for at least 24 hours and use FrogTape® Delicate Surface.  If it’s been dry for more than 3 days (or you didn’t use a base coat) use FrogTape Multi Surface
 photo 20140602_212615.jpg
Step 4:
Paint your piece of furniture – just roll or brush the paint across the piece.
 photo 20140602_213344.jpg
Step 5:
Immediately remove the FrogTape. (be VERY careful not to let your hand slip – it can mess up the paint!)
Step 6:
Enjoy your ‘new’ furniture’ piece!

Having Fun in The Sun: Top 10 Reasons to Discover Boating

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Discover Boating. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

There are plenty of activities you can do together as a family, but one of the most enjoyable for everyone is boating. It’s a great family activity and – the best part? There is something for even the pickiest kid to enjoy (even the ones who would prefer not to be more then 5 feet from their phones, or not connected to wifi 24/7).

top-ten-reasons-to-discover-boating

If you are unfamiliar with the world of boating, DiscoverBoating.com is a public awareness effort managed by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) on behalf of the North American recreational boating industry. Discover Boating programs focus on increasing participation and creating interest in recreational boating by demonstrating the benefits, affordability and accessibility of the boating lifestyle while helping to educate potential boaters and offering opportunities to experience the fun and togetherness of being on the water on a boat.

Boating Helps Reduce Stress
We can’t stress the statistics enough – numerous studies have shown that a little bit of
boating fun each day can go a long way towards reducing stress. In fact, a recent Discover
Boating survey found that 68% of Canadians feel that boating relieves their stress.

Boating Is Good Exercise
From a rigorous sailing excursion to an invigorating run on waterskis, boating provides
sporting enthusiasts with many active endeavors to choose from. In fact, we’d argue that
simply breathing in the brisk wind coming off the water in itself can go a long ways
towards strengthening one’s constitution – not to mention the additional physical and
psychological benefits related to relaxation and stress relief.

Boating Improves Quality Of Life
It’s a proven fact that recreational boating goes a long way towards improving your
quality of life. The minute you start to move through the water, you’ll notice how easy it
is to leave your troubles behind. Recreational boating provides a constructive outlet for
family entertainment that reduces stress and provides enriching opportunities for self
discovery, whether it’s learning how to water ski or simply enjoying the warm glow of an
evening sunset.

Boating Is An Affordable Recreation Alternative
Believe it or not boating is more affordable than you might think. These days many boats can be financed
for as little as $200 a month. You’ll find that a marine lender really understands what
your needs are (often they are boaters too!) and they will work with you to arrange for
financing that works for you,

Water Access Is Closer Than You Think
Did you know that most of the U.S. live less than an hour from a
navigable body of water? This means that water access is a lot closer and more convenient
than you might think. To find marina or launch ramp near you, visit DiscoverBoating.com – boat
marinas and ramps page

Boating Fun Helps You Bond With Friends And Family
In a recent study, relaxing with family and friends was listed as a favourite boating
activity (along with fishing and exploring the outdoors). In other words, to many people
the best part about boating doesn’t revolve around the latest waterskiing tricks or the
number of fish caught- the best part of boating is simply the opportunities it provides for
fun with those closest to you. Recreational boating is quality time spent away from the
television set and the video games, creating an atmosphere that brings people together and
creates fond memories that last a lifetime.

Water Access Is Closer Than You Think
Did you know that about eighty percent of Canadians live less than an hour from a
navigable body of water? This means that water access is a lot closer and more convenient
than you might think.

Boating Is FUN
Likely the top reason to get into boating is simply because it’s so much fun. There are so
many activities to explore when it comes to boating, whether you like to fish, waterski or
simply enjoy relaxing and cruising on the water. Be sure to check out our boating
activities page to learn more about all the different ways that you too can experience
boating fun.

Recreational Boating Is Easy To Learn
If you’re new to boating, take heart. With so many available boating classes and courses
to choose from, you’ll be out on the water before you know it. Whether you’ve always
wanted to learn how to sail, or you’re just interested in cruising the lakes nearby, a wealth
of available boater education courses make boating easier to learn than ever.

Boating Is An Engaging And Rewarding Activity
Recreational boating offers lots of opportunities for personal growth. Whether you’re
instilling your child with extra confidence as they learn how to properly secure a line, or
you’re enjoying the delicate taste of fresh fish that you caught yourself, boating recreation
provides many different rewards for all ages.

Make sure to follow Discover Boating on Facebook , Twitter , Instagram and Pinterest  to find out more boating information such as  boat selector guides, cost comparison tools, renting options, educational courses, nautical lingo and favorite boating destinations.
