You know I hate to go grocery shopping – I have talked about it numerous times, and how I wish fresh, organic food would just show up at my doorstep. WELL my dreams finally did come true with Green BEAN Delivery. Now I have researched these services online and there is usually a catch – a membership fee, a minimum amount to order each week, or even that they won’t deliver to my area. But with Green BEAN Delivery it’s delivery made simple: no membership fee, I don’t have to order every week if I don’t want to, and they DO deliver right to my front door!

Green BEAN Delivery brings organic and all-natural foods sourced from Midwest farmers and artisans whenever possible directly to local consumers’ homes. The company’s network of local farmers and artisans and year round service gives members a healthy alternative to conventional grocery stores, while supporting local farmers and artisans. All you have to do to get started is go to the website and create an online order, which consists of the produce bin of your choice, and delivery frequency (weekly or biweekly). Each produce bin is 100% customizable, and you can even add local dairy, meats, bread and other grocery products. All products are all-natural and free of additives and preservatives. Members can choose from more than 1,000 products available each week.

When you sign-up for Green BEAN Delivery service, you get to choose which produce/meats/breads are right for you. There is a minimum of $35 in produce each order, which is more than fair since it’s being directly delivered to your front door! I love that I am able to make my own choices, and it’s not just what they want to send me. For my first delivery I decided to try a little bit of everything including a fruit I’ve never tried before – a pluot! (If you didn’t know a pluot is a hybrid fruit from apricots and plums! Funny thing I wasn’t a big fan of either, but together they make one delicious snack!) I also received fresh green beans (my favorite), avocado, strawberries, green peppers, apples, grapes, potatoes, lettuce, lime (for my water), some tomatoes and peaches. I also opted to add some yummy rye bread and organic pickles.

My bin delivery is on every Tuesday – if you aren’t home, no worries. They include a styrofoam cooler along with an ice pack to keep your groceries cold until you get home. Getting home from work and coming home to the groceries versus having to go to the grocery – well, there’s just no words…

As I mentioned they not only offer produce – but many other grocery items as well. You can have anything from milk and cheese to fish, poultry, and even frozen food items.  Anything you need to make nutritious meals and snacks for your family – delivered right to your door. Part of me is tempted to never leave my house again!

Try Green B.E.A.N. Delivery and get $15 off your first order – (for new members and re-activations only) Use Promo Code: 15AIADWml at checkout. Offer expires 9/10 so hurry and get fresh, organic produce delivered right to your door!

Old West Festival Info & Giveaway

This is a sponsored post for the Old West Festival, all opinions are my own.

Strap on your boots and mosey on out to a place where scenes out of a John Wayne western come alive as the Old West Festival returns, weekends September 6 through October 12, 2014. Located at its permanent site, just 15 minutes from I-275, east of Cincinnati, the seventh annual Old West Festival promises to transport visitors back in time to an authentic Dodge City Wild West town circa 1878.

Drawing more than twenty thousand visitors each fall, the permanent old west town is home to everything you would expect to see in a real western town if you stepped back in time. Attendees will enjoy historically accurate medicine and saloon shows, can-can dancers in the saloon, gunfights, jailbreaks, and more. Period interpreters will also be found walking the streets and performing the roles of cowboys, store owners, residents, and of course, outlaws.

Some of the children’s entertainment at The Old West Festival:

The Dodge House:  The Dodge House was Dodge City’s first hotel.  At The Old West Festival, The Dodge House is at the southern end of the Cowboy Capital Corral.  While it does not house any guests, it does serve the important purpose of knocking down the corral dust!  Most importantly, musical acts perform throughout the day on its front porch.

Beatty and Kelley’s Restaurant:  One of the first locations in Dodge City after its official founding in 1872 was P.L. Beatty’s and James H. Kelley’s Saloon and Restaurant.  At The Old West Festival Beatty and Kelley’s Restaurant and Alhambra Saloon is a nice place to get a beverage and take in some of our entertainment.  Cowboy Poetry, Puppet Shows, and Family Sing-a-longs are a constant on the stage.

The Union Church:  The Union Church was built by the first church group, which was founded in November of 1872, only a few months after the establishment of Dodge City.  At The Old West Festival “The Union Church” provides seating out of the elements for daily Cowboy Church, singing, story-telling and our very own melodrama.

Chisholm Trail Stage:  The Chisholm Trail is named for Jesse Chisholm who had built several trading posts in what is now western Oklahoma before the American Civil War.  He died in 1868, too soon ever to drive cattle on the trail.  The trail was used in the late 1800s to drive cattle overland from ranches in Texas to Kansas railheads.  At The Old West Festival, The Chisholm Trail Stage is the place to be for period music that will be sure to get you stomping your feet and clapping your hands.  Jason Jacobs, the town magician, will be assured to amaze you on the stage as well.

The Long Branch Saloon:  The Long Branch Saloon was one of 16 rowdy saloons during Dodge City’s heyday.  At The Old West Festival, The Long Branch Saloon is home to our very own Miss Melody Star and her Dancing Girls.  You can also see Rider Kiesner, a national trick-rope champion, fresh off the cattle drive and of course get a nice cool refreshment (or warm refreshment if you prefer).  But be careful when you head out of the Long Branch to Front Street, gunfights tend to break out!

Mockingbird Theatre Company:  In the olden days, from the 1700s until the end of the horse wagon era, peddlers of patent medicine would travel the west drawing crowds to their wagons by interspersing crafted sales pitches with lively singing, dancing, comedic stories, and music audiences.  While the Mockingbird Theatre Company doesn’t actually sell snake oil, their performance is a lively rendition of the real thing.  Characters in their show include “Professor Albion,” owner and chief medical consultant of the company; “California Jack,” his western side-kick; “Mademoiselle Odessa,” the lovely singing ballerina; and “Madam Featherstock,” the matriarch and organ player of the troupe.  Those who gather round watch singing, banjo playing, dancing, and exhibitions of derringer sharp shooting; hear wild stories about how the medicine was discovered, comic bird calls, and comedic and musical adaptations of Shakespearean plays.

nathan-old-west-fest

The Cowboy Capital Corral:  At The Old West Festival we have built our own little arena we call The Cowboy Capital Corral.  You won’t see a bullfight or any horse races exactly, but you will see some great rodeo drill teams, our Congress of Tough Riders challenge and occasionally some mounted shooting.  Some wander on over to the north side of our town to see some of the fanciest and fastest riding around.  New this year is the Old West Festival Circus Riding Show, starring Wild Riders’ Abigail Petersen performing Wild Trick Riding!

Gunfights:  At The Old West Festival, we have (at least) four gunfights break out per day!  But unlike the real Dodge in 1878, ours are all for fun.  We will talk about gun safety and explain that the gunfight you are about to see is just for fun.

The Old West Festival returns Saturdays and Sundays, September 6 to October 12 from 10 a.m. until 6
p.m. The Festival is located at 1449 Greenbush Cobb Rd between Mt. Orab and Williamsburg, Ohio
just off St. Rt. 32. Cost to attend is $12 general admission; $6 for children ages 6 to 12; and children
under 5 are free. Parking is FREE. Visit www.oldwestfestival.com to learn more or call 1-866-WEST-FES
(1-866-937-8337) with questions.

Fresh Thyme: Healthy Food AND Healthy PRICES

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Fresh Thyme. Though I was compensated for my time, all opinions (as usual) are my own.

Last week I shared my excitement about the new Fresh Thyme store opening in Oakley. The idea of wholesome healthy foods at affordable prices was especially appealing to me since I have a semi-large family to feed. I was excited to visit the store and see if it held up to all the hype.

I wasn’t the only one excited about the opening of the new market – the parking lot was packed, and the store seemed to be bursting from the seems. The first thing I noticed, and of course my kids favorite, was the bakery section. They had a ton of great bakery items from cookies, to pies and cakes and beyond. We picked up a cherry pie for our labor day festivities, and the kids each picked a cookie. They have tons of selections, including gluten-free options.

Now my favorite part was just next to the bakery, ready-made meals! They had a lot of food to choose from, and I was super psyched that they had soo many healthy, natural ingredients to choose from. I did pick up a few pizzas and I have to say they were delicious.

PART_1409701274937_20140831_161500

I was able to pick up some of the great deals they were offering as well, such as 77 cent blackberries, sweet corn 6 for $1, and organic grape tomatoes for just 99 cents a carton! They have some great deals coming up next week as well, and I can’t wait to go back – asparagus for $1.97 a pound, and Haas avocados 3 for $1.

This review and giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Mamma Chia. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

You know I am always on the lookout for great new drinks and snacks that are healthy and delicious. It’s a bonus when I find  something that isn’t only healthy, but packed full of fiber and protein to boost your brain with Omega-3s to give you sustained energy and vitality – and that’s exactly what Mamma Chia products do. They offer Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks, Vitality Beverages and Clean Energy Vitality Beverages.

#MammaChiaMagic

PART_1409608900486_20140901_102810

The Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks are nutrient-rich chia seeds infused with fruits and veggies in a pouch – easy to toss into a lunch bag, gym bag, or in your purse when running out the door. These great little pouches really pack a punch with over 1200 mg of Omega3s – which is about the same as a single serving of salmon, 4 grams of fiber – which is equivalent to the amount found in an average apple, not to mention there is no sugar added.

The Mama Chia Vitality Beverages are a much needed vitality boost for those tiring moments – after the gym, during lunch time, or after work before all the ‘work’ really begins. The Organic chia seeds are infused with organic fruit juice which makes it quite a satisfying and refreshing drink. They are lightly sweetened with less than one tablespoon of organic agave nectar  and contains more than an entire days worth of Omega3’s (over 2500 mg), 6 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of complete protein.

They will be available sometime in September at select retailers including Whole Foods, Safeway and Target.
