In Ohio, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) State Farm Safety Patrol is a fleet of vehicles that patrol the highways around the state’s seven largest metropolitan areas, looking for accidents, dangerous debris, and stranded drivers so that they are able to provide assistance and help drivers get safely on their way.

To make sure you are prepared for your road trips, take a look at these great road trip safety tips provided by State Farm.
Hydrate Your Vehicle. Check fluid levels: brake, automatic transmission, power steering, windshield washer, and coolant. Make sure each reservoir is full, and if you see any sign of fluid leakage, take your vehicle in to be serviced.
Give Your Vehicle a Checkup:
- Check the air pressure in all tires, including the spare
- Make sure the wiper blades are functioning properly
- Check battery life, and inspect batteries and battery cables
- Inspect brake pads and linings for wear; change the oil and filter according to manufacturer’s service interval specifications
- Test the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers, and interior lights
Prepare an Emergency Roadside Kit:
- Jumper cables
- Flashlight
- Emergency flat tire repair
- Hazard triangle, road flares, brightly colored distress sign, or “Help” or “Call Police” flag
- Screwdrivers and wrenches
- First aid kit
- Cell phone and charger

The DOT driver assist program seems to be sponsored by State Farm in a lot of states. I’ve noticed the Safety Patrol in Reno, but never noticed the insurance company’s logo. I looked it up and the units are on the roads in Reno, Sparks (right next to Reno), and the Las Vegas area. Your list of hints will help prevent some cars from road trouble.
We do a ton of traveling and the road trip tips from State Farm are awesome. I was bummed to find out that State Farm doesn’t have a patrol near me. They only have them in NW Indiana, Central Indiana and Southern Indiana and I live in NE Indiana.

wow this is super cool. I see some trucks like this around me but it’s not State Farm. I love that there’s a helping hand available to those who, at the time, are in need and probably very stressed.
