5 Simple Tricks to Kick Your Smoking Habit to the Curb

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Aqua-tine. Though I was compensated for my time, all opinions as usual, are my own.

Habits can be hard to break – they say it only takes 21 days to form a habit (good or bad) but if you are breaking a habit of 20 plus years, I’d say  you might need a little more than just some time to make these changes, don’t you agree?

I have a lot of friends (my husband and best friend included) who have a habit they’d all like to break – smoking. Besides the health aspect, there’s also money and time – imagine all the things you could do with the time and money you save when you quit  smoking? More time with your kids and family, more money to go do things with them – to me this is  a win/win situation.

So to help all my friends and readers who are trying to kick the habit,  I compiled a list of natural ways to kick smoking to the curb for good.

Get a Massage. I know sounds crazy (and awesome) doesn’t it?? But studies show that a simple self (or not) given massage in the ear or hand can reduce nicotine cravings. Touching your ear or hand can help calm the mind and body, and eliminate cravings.  During that recent study of twenty adult smokers, researchers found that those who gave themselves the self massages during cravings had lower anxiety, improved mood, fewer withdraw symptoms and smoked fewer cigarettes a day compared to the others.

Work Out. The potential for you to quit is doubled when you work out regularly  according to research done at Brown University. If you do aerobic exercise at least five days a week – and hit around about 80% of your max heart rate – you’re all set. Imagine not only being able to kick the habit, but get in shape while you’re at it. It’s a win/win situation!

Put Your Mind Into It. Meditate, concentrate, and be determined. You know how they say if there’s a will, there’s a way? Well, there is.  The Yale University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry conducted a study of 88 treatment-seeking, nicotine addict adults who smoked an average of 20 cigarettes a day and randomly assigned them to receive either mindfulness training or the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking treatment. Researchers found 32 percent of adults in the mindfulness group had not smoked a week before their follow-up appointment compared to the 6 percent of adults in the Freedom From Smoking program

Acupuncture.  Acupuncture can provide relief for the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal such as, the jitters, restlessness and irritability. Withdrawal symptoms are worse within the first week of quitting and the intensity of the symptoms drops over the first month.
