The Winter Wonderland of Lake Placid

When most of us think about Lake Placid we think of the Winter Olympics – but Lake Placid isn’t just for Olympians. though it is where you can  act like one!
The Adirondack Park offers some of the finest opportunities in the eastern United States for outdoor recreation including hiking, boating of all kinds, camping, picnicking, hiking, mountaineering, cycling, hunting, fishing, swimming, downhill and cross- country skiing, ice skating and snow-shoeing. It’s comprised of about 6.1 million acres (bigger than the state of Vermont) and is the largest protected area in the contiguous United States, and is larger than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier and Grand Canyon National Parks combined!

What I love about Lake  Placid is that it’s a very family friendly place to travel. There are plenty of activities to enjoy as a couple or a  family.

Go fly fishing, hike mountain trails, ski the Whiteface Mountains and shop in a local artist community in the white face region. It’s easily accessible, and affordable.

Explore the Adirondack Coast of Lake Champlain. This region offers a unique blend of scenic beauty, lots of outdoor recreational opportunities and lost of history. Golf, bike through scenic forts and farmland, sail, fish, swim and enjoy the beauty.

Make sure not to miss Saranac Lake – paddling, fishing, and boating in this arts community with eclectic restaurants and stores there is a cool vibe all year long.
Whitewater rafting and home of the Adirondack Museum, this part of the region is the heart of the wilderness. With backcountry hiking and paddling galore, many of the region’s villages include the word “lake” in their names for a reason.

Sitting on the 9-mile long lake for which it’s named, the community hosts an exciting calendar of special events, cultural activities and athletic competitions, and is home to the museum that interprets the natural history of the Adirondacks; the Wild Center.

There is soo much to do and see in Lake Placid, I can’t even fit it all in one post! I will be interviewing a travel expert next week to give us some hints and tips on affordable ways to visit Lake Placid for your family!
