Today one of my good friends husband finally made it home from Afghanistan. After 12 long months her and her children were beyond excited to see him. This wasn’t their first rodeo, after many years in the Army she knew just what to expect. After all the love and kisses from herself and the kids, she knew just what he wanted. He wanted to feel at home. He wanted a home-cooked meal, a shower longer than 5 minutes and a bed that didn’t roll up.
She knew that him being gone was the worst kind of home sickness a person can get. Every month he was gone she would put a care package together for him to give him the comforts of home he couldn’t get over seas. Books to read, music to listen to, drawings form the kids, and letters from her.
It seems like unless we see it everyday, we don’t really realize the sacrifices that our service men and woman are giving up for their country on a daily basis.
This month Marie Callender’s is launching the Comforts from Home Project by supporting our troops, and help by bringing a little bit of home to the service men and women overseas that sacrifice so much for us; and you can help too!
The #ComfortsFromHome Project donates money directly to the USO Program. Through their frozen meals they are ensuring that soldiers get those little ‘comforts’ from home: books, games, computers, basketballs, footballs, etc. They do all this by giving the families on the state side a break too – wholesome quality ingredients in a meal that is easy to serve.
Tune-in as Marie Callender’s, the USO and an army of experts from food, home and travel provide the comforts of home as only Marie Callender’s can, in a truly heartwarming homecoming you’ll always remember.
“A Hero’s Welcome” will welcome one special soldier back to their family in a national television event airing on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2014. The one-hour TV special will air across a range of your favorite networks including HGTV, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel, DIY Channel, and Great American County.
Hosted by Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible, Genevieve Gorder from HGTV Design Star and Gary Sinise, award-winning actor and founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation, the show will be a heartwarming event that brings the comforts of home to American troops in surprising ways.
