Simple Ways to Stay Hydrated

If you’re trying to lose weight or just feel better, you’ve probably already started making lifestyle changes. Maybe you’re eating fresh, healthy meals and finding some time each day to hit the gym. While eating right and getting plenty of exercise are both important steps toward weight loss, you should also make sure you’re staying properly hydrated.

Not only does water play a key role in joint function, digestion, and overall health, but it can also be a powerful tool in your weight loss arsenal. However, some people struggle to drink enough water each day. If you’ve ever reached the end of a busy day and realized you didn’t drink nearly enough water, you’re not alone! Luckily, there are some easy ways you can make sure you’re getting enough water. Here are some of my favorite tips:

Eat Hydrating Foods

When you think of things that help you stay hydrated, food is probably not the first thing that comes to mind! It may surprise you to learn that there are actually many different foods that are great alternative sources of water. Enjoy a bowl of soup for lunch for a filling meal that also contains lots of water, or snack on water-rich fruits like grapefruit, oranges, or grapes. While drinking a glass of water is always the best way to rehydrate, eating some hydrating foods certainly won’t hurt!

Cut Back on Caffeine

I know that a lot of people would probably say that caffeine is as vital to them as water! However, caffeine is a diuretic. So, even though caffeinated beverages may contain water, the caffeine causes you to lose the extra fluid. I’m not saying you need to skip your morning cup of coffee, though. Just make sure you are drinking more water than caffeinated drinks each day.

Make it Convenient

One of the main reasons people seem to forget to drink enough water is simply because they are so busy each day! If your busy schedule is coming between you and your water intake, there are ways to make things easier for yourself. Stash a few extra water bottles in key locations, such as your desk, your car, or anywhere else you tend to spend a lot of time. This way, you’ll always have a drink of water within easy reach.

When our bodies are properly hydrated, we feel better. Drinking plenty of water also helps us stay full, so we are less prone to snacking when we aren’t really hungry. Staying hydrated is a simple thing that provides lots of healthy benefits!
