Nature Abounds in Gulf County Florida

43 miles of natural shoreline. Where water is – there are no high rises or busy highways. White sandy beaches facing a spectacular sunset near the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph Bay. Gulf County Florida offers a little bit of everything – in a beautiful natural environment. With many areas to visit – Port ST. Joe, Indian Pass, Cape San Blas, The Beaches and Wewahitchka there is something for everyone.

Port St. Joe – Off the beaten path and nestled on the shores of St. Joseph bay, Port St. Joe thrives on its natural scenic beauty, deep history and true southern hospitality. Whether you are walkng, shopping, fishing, dining or catching up on history, you’ll never meet a friendlier people. 

Indian Pass – un-crowded beach haven, with great fishing, beautiful beaches, and an abundance of natural wildlife. An eclectic array of beach homes line the edge of miles of secluded, pet-friendly beaches. The award-winning Turtle Beach Inn is tucked away amongst a halo of pines, offering a little bit of quiet for those who need it. Beach driving is allowed, with a permit, and it’s not unusual to see families fishing, crabbing, grilling or stacking wood for an evening bonfire.

Cape San Blas – a seventeen-mile long barrier peninsula, curving around St. Joseph Bay offering playful surf and white sand beaches on the Gulf side and smooth, shallow water on the bay side is what makes up Cape San Blas. The Cape is known for its clear, sometimes blue, sometimes green water, and low, gentle surf. Families who vacation on the Cape choose this spot for both its beauty and its seclusion. Drag a chair to the beach with a book, throw a line to the surf, or comb the shore for treasures. Scattered with shells, the sand in this quiet paradise is super soft and sparkling white.

The Beaches – West of Port St. Joe, just over the canal, is Highland View, a small, quiet and unassuming fishing community. Under the bridge, next to the boat launch ramp, Captain’s Cover Marina sits next to world famous fisheries whose shrimp boats twinkle in the night.

Wewahitchka – The journey from Port St. Joe to Wewahitchka passes through White City, where the Intercoastal Waterway runs under the bridge. There you’ll find a small store for supplies and a public boat ramp with a park, picnic pavillions and restrooms. If journeying by boat, head east on teh waterway to Lake Wimico, the Apalachicola RIver, and Apalachicola Bay or west which heads towards Panama City and Destin. What’s next? Central Time Zone. Yes, Gulf County is one of four U.S. counties that boasts this oddity and it would definitely be an interesting New Year’s Eve celebration because of it!

I’m not sure which area my family would love more – but I know they would enjoy the beach horseback riding, bicycling along the coast, and fishing and crabbing in the beautiful water. We are planning a trip to Florida for July, and I can’t wait to see what Gulf County has to offer!

Here’s my entry. I love to horseback ride, go fishing, and snorkeling. But nothing beats relaxing on the beach enjoying the fresh air, the sunshine and watching your kids enjoy their vacation!
