Budget Friendly Vacation Fun at Lake Placid

Let’s be honest here. In today’s economy the idea of a vacation for most is more of a dream than a reality. Flying to the islands, skiing in the Alps, those dreams can be wayy out of budget for the majority of us. That’s why I’ve tried to post budget-friendly family-friendly vacations that even those on the tightest vacation budget can afford. So when I find a location with lots of cool, free local events I get pretty excited and of course want to share all the great places with you.

The great thing about vacationing at Lake Placid is there are always a ton of free and budget-friendly events and fun stuff for you to do nearly every.single.day. Not only do you have all you super fun stuff like fishing, tubing, ice skating, and hiking, but they have an epitome of festivals and fun like no one else!

The Blues & Heritage Festival at Lake Placid enjoys a history rich with music of all genres. June 2015 will mark the 2nd Annual Lake Placid Blues and Heritage Festival of this new and exciting music fest. The festival will celebrate exceptional music and the rich heritage of the Lake Placid area and include local and regional bands.

The I Love BBQ Festival is an annual event that attracts the best BBQ competitors in the country and continues to grow in popularity year after year. The tasty event days are filled with sampling opportunities, food and beverage concessions, children’s activities, live entertainment, and more.

Starting in March is Maple Season where the New York State Maple Producers Associations present Maple Weekends. You can spend a fun day with family and friends, sampling maple products across the state. The maple producers host open houses where the public can visit and see how maple syrup and maple products are made. This years Maple Weekend will be celebrated at the end of March with fun events to celebrate. Be sure to check out their website for more info on this fun event!

The Lake Placid Annual Horse Show brings nearly 1,000 horses to Lake Placid for three weeks at the end of June each year. A city of tents is set up in anticipation, and the brightly striped tents house millions of dollars worth of horses and their owners at the show each  year. You can take a  behind the scenes tour of the show grounds, getting an inside look at the stalls, and tack rooms. This show has  some of the top international jumpers, which you will sometimes see competing in the Olympics sometime in the future (or even the same year!)

There are a TON of great events and things to do in Lake Placid; don’t let a tight budget guide you elsewhere!
In fact you can enter to win a trip for 2 which includes: a two night stay at the Lake House, dinner for two at The Cottage, a dog sled ride for two from Thunder Mountain Sled Rides, a Day Pass for Two at the Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Center and an Olympic Passport for two! Contest ends April 30th so get your entry in today!
